Dr. Castillo simplified the issue in a way that it made it easy to understand why the issue occurred in the first place.

Glad I made the appointment. Very knowledgeable. I am already feeling better with the prescription he gave me.

The doctor needs to be more respectful and sensitive toward the patient. #Rude is not a bedside manner.
This was my follow-up appointment and he was very thorough explaining the action steps to take and why.

Waited over 2hrs to see the doctor for 5 minutes. Will probably look for a new gastroenterologist. Front desk staff very unfriendly.
I had to wait to be seen by doctor almost 2 hours and after he finally made it to the room, he spent not even 10 minutes with me. I wasn’t checked by doctor at all. All nurse did is check my weight. Then doctor just asked couple questions and that was it. Some of the questions were based on my ethnicity and were racist. Overall he was inappropriate and I would never wanna stay in the same room with person like this just by myself. Note to myself: always check reviews before making an appointment. All the bad things written down in this section by other people were true.

No one in the office was communicating how long the wait time was to patients who were waiting to see the doctor, and the waiting area was packed. I waited more than an hour after my scheduled appointment time to see a doctor and saw very few people come in and out of the waiting area during that time. Doctor was perfectly nice but gave me minimal information ahead of scheduling a follow-up appointment.
This was my first appointment. He prescribed a test for and wants to do a follow-up. We discussed a few options and possible solutions but he wanted test results first. I am looking forward to the follow-up and results.

zocdoc you did not send all the information that I provided you only received a part to the doctor's office ..... very friendly staff .... everything clean .... respecting the rule of distancing, mouth covers and sanitaizer for the hands .... The attention of the perfect nurse in terms of questions regarding my visit .... and Doctor Samuel F Castillo giving you confidence at the moment of exposing my condition ....

This appointment has been by far the worst I have ever had in my life. I had been waiting for this appointment for almost a month. That day was very sick and I felt super vulnerable and scared by my pain, and I left that appointment feeling emotionally way worse. I waited for doctor Castillo inside the office for almost an hour to come into the office. Then, from the moment he entered, he was listening to me impatiently, it seemed that at any moment he was going to open the door and leave me talking to myself, he didn't physically examine me, he was cold and peevish. I would never go back to a consultation with him and I do not recommend him to anyone.
Went for a general consultation for some issues I've been dealing with for years. Was definitely nervous going in, and covid added another layer, especially since it was located within a hospital medical building. My first impressions: The Office seemed very clean, but I did see a patient leaving that had his mask on incorrectly. The reception staff are very kind, however, their area appeared scattered and unorganized. I was ushered to an exam room that was decked out with new tech and an interactive tablet to browse health tips while I waited for the doctor-very cool! I had already completed the check-in on ZocDoc, but the nurse reasked all the questions. Dr. Castillo entered the room with an intern that was shadowing him. he sat down at the computer and started asking questions and sharing his experience. I was asked my height and weight, however, at no time were these attributes checked. (i also saw they had a blood pressure reading on my take-home papers, no one took my BP...) Dr. Castillo listened to my issues, however, I felt as if he didn't hear me. it seemed as if he had heard the story a thousand times and he knew exactly how to fix it. I'm still not sure if that's positive or negative, but I've been dealing with these issues for many years and was expecting a little more compassion and personalization to my treatment. I have been to GIs before that use touch (on my abdomen) to help diagnose issues. this was not done, he remained sitting the whole time. I asked about specific treatments, including following a Low Fodmap diet, or "trigger" foods that I have been avoiding, and it seemed as if he was calling BS. I'm a little nervous about seeing him again, as I really want to get to the bottom of my issues, and I don't believe there is one recipe that fits everyone. Despite all this, I will stick with Dr. Castillo for a few more appointments. All the reviews were so good, maybe I just need to get to know his methods more.

Nobody wants to talk in great detail about their GI issues but rest assured, Dr. Castillo is very non-judgemental and easy to talk to and funny! Very knowledgable about a variety of topics like probiotics, food allergies, diets, and obviously, GI diseases. I also appreciate he is very proactive in seeking a diagnosis.

Dr. Castillo has great bedside manner, is friendly, and took care of all my complaints promptly. Will be returning to Dr. Castillo for all future GI needs.
Dr. Castillo is the first doctor I’ve ever been to that actually took the time to talk with me about my concerns. We sat and chatted for about 25 minutes, much longer than a typical office visit that lasts no more than 10 minutes. He has terrific bedside manner, even cracking a few jokes! He’s very personable and recommended medications for me after assessing everything I told him. You can tell he is extremely smart and a reliable down to earth guy. Highly recommend!

Excellent doctor. Gave me the much-needed "kick in the butt" to get the colonoscopy and endoscopy required to investigate my g/i issues (I had been postponing it for way too long!) The doctor is a very knowledgeable professional, who is clearly engaged with his patients and instills a sense of trust almost immediately. A busy, but very well-run office that is attached to St Mary's. Nice front desk staff- extremely helpful and friendly!

I recently switched to a new gastroenterologist. I am glad that I chose Dr Samuel F. Castillo. On my initial office visit - back in May - and I was seen almost right away. He was very attentive with my issues regarding my previous gastro-physician. He viewed copies of my previous tests and medical records.Thereafter, he recommended a follow-up Upper GI Endoscopy. It was done in early September and it was a seamless procedure. He even came back to see me in the recovery room afterwards. He explained his initial findings. My previous doctor never did that. On my most recent office visit, there were plenty of patients to be seen. I was concerned that my time would be brief. It was not! He patiently explained the pathology results and the recommended follow-up. Henceforth, I was confident that I chose the right physician! On a different note, everyone at the office was great as well! Maritza was very courteous with all my initial questions during the transition. Carmen - at the reception counter - is always hospitable. Ruth and Antonia are also courteous.

Dr. Castillo is very easygoing and took his time. I did not feel rushed whatsoever. The ladies at the front desk are fantastic. They are very friendly and I enjoyed talking to them. I did not wait long in the waiting room or exam room. Overall I had a very pleasant experience and would highly recommend this office to anyone that is in need of a GI.

Dr. Castillo is awesome. His bedside manner is second to none. The office was very crowded but the wait time was under 30 minuets.
Verified patient
Very friendly overall, took his time during our appointment, which reassured me that he cared about helping me and didn't just see me as a source of income. He gave a helpful explanation of his diagnosis and what I should do to treat my acid reflux.
Verified patient
Excelente, me senti muy comoda y protegida.

I enjoyed meeting Dr. Castillo and I thought he was excellent. In fact, since I knew I had a stomach issue I wish I'd gone to him right away. Why is the meeting with primary care necessary? This process is too drawn out.
Verified patient
Very friendly staff and doctor.

My initial results from my procedure showed that there was something causing my distress and pain but then the results came back and all the doctor wrote was "negative." There was no explanation about why my initial results supported my pain and discomfort, so I am still in pain and discomfort without any explanation. In addition, it took over a month to get my results. The doctor told me to call back in 2 weeks and then they said they'd call me. In the mean time, I am in pain this whole time without any explanation. Finally at a month I got fed up and called and they magically had my results ready but with limited explanation. In addition, when I woke up from my procedure, the doctor was already holding his coat ready to leave which made me feel really uncomfortable. I had to wait 5 hours for my procedure and was patient, so it made me feel uncomfortable that he made me feel rushed with questions after my procedure.
I had a really good visit with Dr. Castillo. He was very thorough, spent plenty of time answering my questions, and I enjoyed his demeanor. I would definitely recommend seeing him.
