About Dr. Shannon Howell

Dr. Shannon Howell-Pennington was born and raised in Chilhowie, Virginia. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology at UVA Wise before earning her Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from Salus University, Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Her interest in optometry started with her very first pair of glasses, which changed her life so drastically that she became determined to help others achieve their best vision. While in optometry school, Dr. Howell-Pennington became interested in the medical side of optometry, developing a passion for eye disease management and exploring new innovations in the field. Outside of work, Dr. Howell-Pennington enjoys going to church, reading, and spending time outdoors and with her family and friends. At Envision Eye Care, Dr. Howell-Pennington practices full-scope eye care for patients of all ages, from pediatric through geriatric.
