“Dr. Yelgar was knowledgeable and had an excellent bedside manner. My appointment with him was quick but thorough. He made sure to triple check with me on how well I could see with the different prescription options he was trying. I wish the wait time didn't take almost 1.5 hours AFTER my scheduled appointment time. I even made sure to get there at least 20 minutes early. I'm not sure I would return to this location unless I make one of the first appointments of the day.”

About Dr. Shrishyla (Shri) Yelgar
Dr. Shrishyla Yelgar is a New York State licensed optometrist who has robust clinical training in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease including glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, dry eye and many other conditions. He is also skilled in comprehensive and contact lens related care.
Dr. Yelgar earned his Bachelor of Sciences in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior from The University of California, Davis and went on to receive his Doctorate of Optometry at The State University of New York College of Optometry in midtown Manhattan. During his clinical training, Dr. Yelgar rotated through Port Hueneme Naval Base in California, West Haven VA in Connecticut, and Weiss Eyes, a private practice in Virginia.
Dr. Yelgar is a humanitarian at heart. As a student, he volunteered extensively with Remote Area Medical, providing care to the underprivileged in rural Appalachia. Following graduation, Dr. Yelgar spent three months volunteering at Aravind Eye Hospital in India where he taught classes to doctors and nurses, learned firsthand about management of advanced disease, established clinics, and helped the hospital to win an international award.

This is a bit of a mixed experience.. my appointment started 45 minutes late even though I arrived on time. This was my first appointment with the office so, that wasn't a good way to start. When I did get called back, there was no apology for the wait so that leads me to believe this is a regular thing for this office. Once my appointment began, it was pretty seamless. The staff were extremely professional and the appointment itself was pretty quick. The two women who helped conduct my preliminary exam were extremely professional. And the Dr I did see was very kind and informative. Afterwards I was taken to the sales counter where we began to discuss my options of eyewear. The sales person was very friendly however when I declined to make a purchase that day, I could feel the judgement from the sales person. Kind've rude but I understand that this is their job. Maybe there is pressure from the higher-ups to push sales.

Well I did appointment with Dr. Shrishyla but I was seen by a different doctor on my appointment day. I did my appointment during the Covid19 lockdown and that’s the reason they told me for the discrepancy. The office and service was great. The doctor who attended me was very nice, friendly, and professional and I was completely satisfied with her service. They should definitely work on to reduce the waiting period even though it wasn’t horrible compared to Mount Sinai Hospital (at mount Sinai I had to wait 4 hrs).

Considerable wait time (almost an hour) is a big negative as an office. However, multiple tests were conducted efficiently albeit a little robotically (e.g. retinal imaging, pressure). The doctor himself was brief but friendly. First office I've been to in 15 years that threw many sample contact lenses at me rapid fire for testing on the spot; this was a plus. Ultimately I was happy with the experience for a midtown NYC doctor's office.

I had an excellent experience. The reception staff was warm, friendly, and attentive. I filled out my forms and waited less than 15 minutes before I was brought back for initial eye exams. Dr. Elgar has a wonderful bedside manner and is meticulous in his work. I had a wonderful experience and would recommend Dr. Yelgar to all!

Dr. Yelgar was great, it's just the other staff at this Cohen Optical location that are difficult to deal with (the salespeople). Otherwise, I'd return again to get an updated lens/glasses prescription from Dr. Yelgar.

It took about 35 minutes after my appointment time to be seen, but it was quickly resolved with the kindness of everyone in the facility. Everyone was patient, knowledgeable, organized, and kind. Highly recommend. Be prepared to wait, but also anticipate excellent service.

The 2 ladies who tested me before I saw him were short in their manner and disinterested.
As I was leaving, because the office is inside an eye ware store, the sales lady was trying to pressure me to buy glasses, even though the doctor had said I didn’t really need them. Annoying.

Both staff and doctor Shrishyla have been incredibly kind and professional.
The whole vision checkup went fast and I was impressed by the equipment they were using (Kinda felt like a sci-fi movie at times).
Dr Shrishyla was very informative and clear when he gave me my diagnosis, and was able to treat an issue I had on the spot instead of booking another appointment.
As for the glasses I needed, buying glasses at the optometrist is never cheap. I choose to go for it, but in cases I wanted to explore other options, Dr Shrishyla printed my prescription so I could easily go somewhere else for it.

Awesome experience, I am terrified of eye doctors and Dr. Yelgar and his team made everything comfortable.
Everything went quickly, the team explained what tests they were doing and what to expect, super-efficient atmosphere. Love that they clean the machines in front of you, too.
Lisbeth helped me to pick out some cute frames and wasn't pushy or rushed -- highly recommend working with her if you get a prescription and want to purchase frames in-store.
It's not relevant to the quality of his work but Dr. Yelgar is extremely easy on the eyes, so I'll definitely be back in a year for my follow-up appointment. (Maybe sooner.) Plus, a dog came to visit the office while I was waiting for my new glasses, so the entire experience was a ten.
