Dr. El-Sawy earned his undergraduate degrees in Physics and Philosophy from the College of William & Mary in Virginia. He completed his MD and PhD at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, graduating with honors in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. His thesis research was published in leading immunology journals. During his ophthalmology residency at Columbia University in New York, Dr. El-Sawy was elected Chief Resident and awarded the Heed Fellowship. He then pursued sub-specialty training in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at the renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Oculoplastic Consultants in Texas.
