Dr. Winfrey was kind, listened well, and addressed my concerns with lots of information. Very trustworthy. The only negative thing was that she and her assistant multiple times would leave me in the room and not come back for over 10 minutes, which I thought was odd. Overall great experience!”

About Dr. Valerie Winfrey
Dr. Valerie Winfrey completed her undergraduate studies at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in San Antonio, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Biology. She continued her education at the same institution, obtaining a Doctor of Optometry degree from the UIW Rosenberg School of Optometry. Dr. Winfrey has been practicing since 2013 and joined EyeTX in 2019. She became an optometrist because, as a child, she loved going to the eye doctor. Knowing she wanted to be a doctor and having experienced poor eyesight herself guided her toward this career. Dr. Winfrey enjoys meeting new people and helping them improve one of their most important senses—vision. When she’s not caring for her patients, she loves singing, hiking, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.

The OD is a very professional and personable practitioner. This office sees lots of patients in a very short time but she manages her time with patients and spends the necessary time to provide a good experience. One thing I found out, if you have insurance and you have new benefits as a result of it being a new year and all, be ready to move on any change. My new insurance offered full pay on contacts and I was not aware of that. The doctor told me this was the opportunity to decide. I stayed with my non-contacts but it might be different for others. I spent 30 years calling on doctors and this doctor was met all my expectations. I am no frills adult male and we got along fine.

I was greeted when I walked in and signed out paperwork as usual, and the staff was friendly, informative, and patient with me.

The appointment for my daughter and I was just ok. I don’t see is going back. Small office with two ladies upfront that were helping other guests with glasses causing the walk-in/ scheduled guests to wait. The lady who took us back for our general exams was not very pleasant she seemed very stern didn’t really engage my daughter as a kid should be engaged. The doctor herself was ok, did what she had to do and we were on our way. Nothing memorable only good thing was it was close to my house.

I was having a hard time finding an optometrist that took Tricare insurance. Dr. Winfrey's office is not in my neighborhood (about a 20-minute drive), but the commute was well worth it. I will definitely book my next appointment with her.

Yes I would recommend going back, positive and clean atmosphere, friendly towards clients, exceptional communication and understanding of tools. Excellent information on procedures and available in store products and upgrades for prescription lenses. Overall great doctor and great staff!
