Following residency, Dr. Takeyama completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship through American Sports Medicine Institute at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics Center in Birmingham, AL. During his fellowship, he served as the team physician for the University of West Alabama and Briarwood Christian School. In addition, Dr. Takeyama provided medical coverage for the University of Alabama, Birmingham Barons Minor League Baseball (Chicago White Sox AA Affiliate), Birmingham Squadron (New Orleans Pelicans NBA G League Affiliate), Samford University Men's and Women's Basketball, Alabama Ballet, NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, SEC Baseball Conference Tournament, and Birmingham Marathon. Dr. Takeyama treats a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports medicine injuries of all ages from young athletes to active seniors. He specializes in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures including corticosteroid, hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), prolotherapy, tenotomy, barbotage, and trigger-finger release. He also provides non-operative fracture management and concussion management. He is devoted to providing evidence-based care with a patient-centered, holistic focus to help patients and athletes return to their everyday activities and sports. Dr. Takeyama enjoys spending time with his family, as well as playing golf, basketball, fishing, and other outdoor recreational activities. He is fully fluent in Japanese and English.
