Getting to know Abigail Hansen

I care deeply about and respect the vulnerability it takes to ask for help. As a therapist, maintaining the therapeutic relationship is always my priority when working together. I trust that you are the expert in yourself, and my role is to help you uncover your own inner strength and wisdom to make and maintain the changes you desire in your life. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Naropa University and a Bachelor's degree from Arcadia University, which have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you on your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Art Therapist. I have experience working with individuals of all ages who are motivated to live a more engaged and full life. Additionally, I provide couples therapy, family therapy and support to caregivers. I spent the last decade working in treatment centers gaining experience treating: eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma, mood disorders, attachment issues, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders. I do not always use art therapy when working with clients, only when we (client and myself) feel it can be clinically indicated. In those moments, I guide clients through that process in a careful safe way for assessment, intervention, and insight oriented purposes. In addition to art therapy, I utilize a variety of modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Response Prevention, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I tend to take a strengths based client-centered approach that is rooted in attachment theory.
