Abigail Mendez, LMHC

Abigail Mendez, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi, I'm Abigail, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who works with adults navigating anxiety, grief and bereavement, complex trauma, and relationship struggles. I also bring specialized experience supporting BIPOC individuals and clients navigating cultural issues and racial trauma, and I provide therapy in both English and Spanish. When we work together, you can expect a warm and nonjudgmental environment where your pace, values, and lived experience are honored. My style is collaborative and down-to-earth, and I blend approaches including CBT, DBT, mindfulness-based work, somatic and trauma-informed therapy, and others, tailored to your needs and goals rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we work toward helping you feel more grounded, regulated, and less overwhelmed. I hold a Master's degree from New York University and am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with diagnostic privilege. I believe therapy works best when it honors who you are and moves at your pace. If you're ready to take that first step, I'd love to connect and work together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When we work together, you can expect a warm, nonjudgmental, and collaborative space where you feel heard and supported. I believe therapy should honor your unique experiences, values, and pace, so I tailor my approach to your individual needs and goals. Whether you're navigating anxiety, grief, complex trauma, relationship challenges, or seeking support as a BIPOC individual or couple, my goal is to help you feel more grounded, emotionally regulated, and less overwhelmed.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I begin by getting to know your experiences, concerns, and goals so we can build a treatment plan that feels right for you. I use an integrative approach, blending evidence-based therapies such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), somatic techniques, and trauma-informed care. Throughout the process, we work collaboratively to develop practical coping skills, process difficult experiences, strengthen relationships, and support meaningful, lasting growth.
