Getting to know Adam Biec
My practice centers around three core specialties: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression and anxiety, Couples Counseling, and addressing panic-related issues.
CBT Expertise:
As a CBT practitioner, my individual counseling sessions are designed around the principle that changing thought patterns can alter how we feel. I utilize the ABC model of CBT, focusing on the relationship between Activating events, Beliefs, and emotional Consequences. Sessions include Socratic questioning to facilitate deeper introspection, guiding clients toward adaptive responses.
Couples Counseling:
Dedicated to fostering stronger relationships, I've practiced couples counseling independently since 2015. My foundation was built on two years of exclusive training and practice in Functional Family Therapy. Though originally for families, this model suits couples counseling well. Our journey spans three phases:
1. Reducing negativity and blame,
2. Enabling behavior change, and
3. Fortifying strategies for relapse prevention.
Panic-Related Issues:
Having personally experienced panic disorder, I'm passionate about helping others. Navigating panic attacks is daunting, but I guide clients with evidence-based interventions such as:
- Exposure therapy to external and internal triggers, including interoceptive exposure,
- Techniques centered on surrender, acceptance, and paradoxical intent,
- Psychoeducation to conceptualize how panic functions, and
- Instilling the right attitude and tools to cope effectively.
I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University and completed advanced psychotherapy training at the Gestalt Center for Psychotherapy and Training.
I'm committed to guiding you toward mental well-being. Let's reclaim your life and relationships together.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Every session with me is infused with a sincere sense of empathy. While I utilize CBT, logic, and reasoning as foundational elements, given my linear thought process, I approach each client's experience with warmth and understanding. Our collaborative process involves a deep dive into the heart of your challenges, charting a thoughtful course of action, and then navigating that path together.
However, I recognize that not all concerns call for definitive solutions. There are times when the simple act of being heard and receiving support can be transformative.
For those coming in for couples counseling, it's essential to me that both individuals feel validated and appreciated. In our space, I'm committed to fostering an environment of balance, ensuring neither of you feels consistently blamed, overshadowed, or neglected. It's paramount to me that each partner feels seen and understood.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Navigating the therapy journey can be a vulnerable process, and I want to ensure you feel supported every step of the way. When you choose to work with us:
Administrative Guidance:
Before we embark on our therapeutic journey, our dedicated practice manager will be there to assist you with insurance benefits, ensuring the administrative details are managed seamlessly. They will also send over essential paperwork to get things started, always prioritizing your convenience.
Initial Evaluation:
When we first meet, my primary goal is to truly listen and understand. I seek to get a holistic view of the challenges you're facing and aim to pinpoint the root of these issues. This session is a space for mutual understanding, where I aim to gauge the nature of your concerns.
Crafting a Treatment Plan:
Depending on our time in the initial session, we might sketch out a preliminary treatment roadmap right then. If not, it will be our priority in our subsequent meetings. My commitment is to ensure we have a clear, empathetic, and collaborative approach to healing.
From there on, our sessions will be devoted to addressing and working on the core issues, always with your well-being and comfort at the forefront. Your journey towards healing is a shared one, and I'm here to guide and support you every step of the way.

After suffering from anxiety and panic attacks for most of my life, and as it got increasingly worse this past year, I sought out a therapist and was lucky to find Adam through Zocdoc. I tried a therapist once in the past, but I had a horrible experience so I was definitely hesitant about going in. But after coming highly-recommended, I met with Adam who provided a very safe environment to talk. He has significantly helped me cope with my anxiety and provided extremely useful techniques when it comes to approaching and overcoming it. He is very personable and just a pleasure to talk to about anything. I wish I could give him more than 5-Stars. I can't thank him enough for everything he has done for me!

I would absolutely go back again. Prior to my appointment the doctor personally confirmed my appointment. When I arrived I didn't have to wait. The doctor was friendly, kind, and receptive to my concerns. The experience was very positive.

Dr. Biec was compassionate, relatable, and easy to talk to. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who struggles with anxiety and depression. In our short time together, he was able to help me feel more grounded and confident. Unfortunately, we found out that he was actually out of my insurance network or I would have continued to work with him.

I appreciate all the help Adam gave me. Adam is supportive, but he did not let me wallow in my own pain. I appreciate that about him it's so easy for me to get lost in myself. He has a forward way of thinking which helped me get out of my rut.

I have seen several therapists before Adam, and I was very pleased with our first session. He is an anxiety specialist so he was extremely knowledgeable about panic attacks and he proposed many different strategies that we will use in the future in order to overcome them. He did not give generic advice like \the other therapists i have seen and he seemed to really care. I am looking forward to working with him to overcome the issues that i have been struggling with for a long time now.

My last visit was illuminating. After he was done with my son, he called me in for our monthly update. He pointed out strategies I could use to better help my son with ADHD. I always feel that I have a friend in him, guiding me through the mine fields of ADHD.

Adam has been very helpful to me. I went to him for help with panic attacks, but he helped me overcome them. What he said made sense from the start. It was hard for me to describe what I was going through w other people, but he knew what I was going through and could relate, which made me feel comfortable. Most of my panic attacks have stopped. I have a lot more to go, but I know what I have to do now! I definitely recommend him!
