Psychotherapist
NY
Hi! I’m so glad you found your way here. I’m Adriana – a pilates girly, matcha fanatic, and book worm all in one. Aside from all of that, I’m also a mental health counselor. That being said, my role is to ensure that my clients feel safe, heard, and understood within the space we share. As part of my externship during my grad school years, I worked with a variety of individuals – specifically, those navigating trauma, emotional abuse, anxiety, relationship struggles, self-esteem issues, and family problems. Throughout this time, the biggest reward was watching my clients evolve into the greatest version of themselves they never thought they’d become. I don’t lean on using just one single approach to assist you in your healing journey – I make sure that we work together as a team to find what is best for you. Our sessions will consist of getting rid of your stressors, but will feel like you’re spending time with a close friend over brunch. I can’t guarantee that I won’t bring out sailor language, but I can guarantee that you’ll leave each meeting feeling more confident, secure, and supported.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Not to throw quotes, but to make the process feel lighter, Yalom once said, “Psychotherapy is where two anxious people sit together, one probably more anxious than the other…no airs, no robes, just two humans trying not to bolt”. Throughout this journey, we’ll both be a certain level of anxious. Sure it may get messy, but growing never is comfortable – I’ve been there before. It isn’t easy, it’ll definitely be human, but most importantly it’ll be real. Although I may be a baby therapist, I know my values. Working with me, I feel strongly about creating an environment where you are able to bring all your tangles and we unravel them together; a space where you can let loose when you couldn’t. With encouragement and gentle challenging, I’ll be there alongside you to ensure that your light is never dimmed again.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As your supportive presence, I make sure that the conversations that often go unheard are heard at maximum level; believe me when I say nothing will go uncovered. Uncomfortable situations? I’m here for it. Taboo topics? Give it to me. I can guarantee nothing makes me uncomfortable. Although I do the listening, I’m also here to help you find either the version of yourself you once lost, or the version you want to become without shame, judgment, or self-doubt. This means gentle nudging out of your comfort zone (yes, almost like that workout class you were motivated to sign up for last night and once you went in the morning, it was worth it), copious amounts of encouragement, and yapping. Credentials aside, I bring respect and warmth to every session, with the intention of guiding you to the place you want to be in.
