Alexa Braun, LMSW

Psychotherapist
NY
Life can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to manage your emotions, relationships, family expectations, and everyday responsibilities all at once, and sometimes you just need a space to sort through it all. I’m a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) who works with children, adolescents, and young adults navigating anxiety, stress, relationship and family challenges, self esteem, emotional regulation, and everyday life. I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation, somewhere you can feel comfortable being yourself while also gaining practical tools and a better understanding of what’s keeping you stuck. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down to earth. I also have experience working within the Jewish community and providing support that is sensitive to the cultural and religious values that may be important to you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I want our sessions to feel like a space where you can talk openly without feeling judged or like you have to say the “right” thing. I listen closely, ask questions, help you make connections, and offer practical strategies for situations that may feel stressful, confusing, or overwhelming. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, relationships, family conflict, self esteem, difficult emotions, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed by day to day life, we’ll work together to understand what’s going on and find approaches that actually feel realistic for you. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling understood, more confident in how to handle what you’re facing, and equipped with tools you can actually use outside of therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We usually begin by talking about what brought you to therapy, what’s been feeling difficult lately, and what you would like to be different. I also want to get to know you beyond the problem that brought you in, including your relationships, routines, strengths, stressors, and the things that are important to you. From there, we’ll identify goals together and use our sessions to work through current challenges, recognize patterns, build coping and communication skills, and practice new ways of responding to difficult situations. Depending on your needs, I draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, mindfulness, and other evidence based techniques while keeping our work practical and individualized. I don’t believe therapy should follow the exact same formula for every person. I’ll continue checking in about what’s helpful and adjust our work as your needs and goals change.
