Alicia Almonte-Cintron, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who works with adults navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship concerns, stress, and emotional challenges. I’m especially interested in working with adults in their 20s through 40s who want to better understand themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that shape how they move through the world. My approach is compassionate, curious, and direct. I believe therapy can be a place to feel supported while also being challenged to look at things differently. I draw from CBT, DBT, and ACT while adapting treatment to the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I want clients to leave therapy with greater insight, stronger coping skills, and more confidence in their ability to navigate challenges independently. To me, progress means not only feeling better, but understanding yourself well enough to carry what you’ve learned beyond the therapy room.

Getting to know Alicia Almonte-Cintron

What should a new client know about working with you?

I would want new clients to know that my approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and direct. I want you to feel comfortable being yourself in session, while also knowing that I’ll ask thoughtful questions, help you look at things from different perspectives, and gently challenge patterns that may be getting in your way. I don’t believe therapy should feel like you’re talking while I simply sit and listen. Our sessions are conversational and interactive. We’ll explore what you’re experiencing, how it’s affecting you, and the thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and patterns that may be connected to it. I also make a point of recognizing your progress and strengths, rather than just focusing on what isn’t working. My approach draws from CBT, DBT, and ACT, and I tailor how I use these approaches based on you and what you find helpful. That may include exploring thought patterns, building practical coping and emotional regulation skills, improving communication and boundaries, or learning how to respond differently to difficult emotions and situations. You can also expect me to be curious. I may ask questions that encourage you to think more deeply about why something affects you the way it does, what certain experiences mean to you, or how past and present patterns connect. My goal isn’t to tell you what decisions to make, but to help you understand yourself well enough to make choices that feel intentional and aligned with who you are. Ultimately, I want therapy to feel like a space where you can be honest, feel understood, gain insight, and leave with something useful to carry into your life outside of our sessions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For our first session, I’ll spend time getting to know you, what brings you to therapy, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you’d like to get out of our work together. I prefer a thorough initial intake so I can understand the bigger picture rather than focusing only on your immediate concerns. After that, sessions are collaborative and conversational. We’ll typically start by checking in on how things have been since we last met and then focus on whatever feels most relevant that day. Sometimes that means processing a recent experience, while other sessions may involve exploring patterns, relationships, emotions, beliefs, or behaviors that we’ve identified over time.
