Getting to know Alison Aliazzo

Alison Aliazzo is a Psychotherapist working with individuals and couples in New York City. She has a thriving practice consisting of clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, emotional regulation, co-dependency, imposter syndrome, and other challenges that hinder their ability to function at their optimum level. Alison uses traditional therapeutic methods such as psychoanalytic therapy, as well as more modern modalities like CBT and EFT, to create individualized plans tailored to meet her clients' needs. She believes there is no "one size fits all" approach and views therapy as a partnership, where the client brings their experiences and she provides objective yet invested feedback. Through this process, clients gain increased awareness and understanding of themselves, which improves their overall experience of life. Alison offers a safe space for clients to express themselves truthfully and without judgment, while empowering them with their own strengths, skills, and strategies to overcome challenges. With an emphasis on self-acceptance, her goal is for clients to leave therapy feeling more empowered and in control of their emotions, relationships, and lives. She earned her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Adelphi University in 2006, received her LMSW the same year, and earned her LCSW in 2023. After 17 years of working with teenagers, adults, and couples, Alison started her own practice, Gentle Health Psychotherapy. She offers both virtual and in-person sessions, with hours of operation Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Hello and welcome! We all know that finding a therapist can be an ordeal. In this time of instant access, you can research yourself into a frenzy and still not be sure that you've found 'the one'. In fact, I would liken it to dating! You do your best to screen potential candidates, only to have it all come down to one thing: chemistry. It's hard to determine chemistry over an app! That's why it's best to have a phone call to gage the therapeutic fit. Once we determine that we are indeed a good fit, the rest unfolds quite easily and naturally. I look forward to connecting with you and to taking on your challenges, together. Until then, be well and know that you already have the power to be whomever you envision yourself to be!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our minds are the lens through which we view and engage with the world. Just as we aim to care for our physical bodies, our mental health also deserves time and attention! Together, we will find what's not working for you and create positive change. This is true of individuals and couples; I offer objective insight and feedback to guide you through any impasses that come up and seem unmanageable. You cannot change what you don't acknowledge. Once these issues come to light, anything is possible.
