Getting to know Alizay Baluch

As someone who is passionate about assisting individuals from diverse backgrounds, I aim to provide effective support and foster growth. It is my desire to aid my clients in overcoming a range of challenges so they can realize their full potential. I firmly believe that empathy and compassion are fundamental to the well-being and growth of all clients. Working with clients of various ages who struggle with a variety of mental health concerns—including anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and relational problems—has deepened my understanding of the challenges individuals confront. This experience has also strengthened my dedication to delivering effective support to help individuals navigate these complexities. In my work, I adopt a collaborative approach, primarily utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while integrating elements of Psychodynamic, Gestalt, and Person-centered therapies as needed. I hold an EdM in Psychological Counseling from Columbia University, which has further equipped me with the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each client’s unique needs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a person of South Asian descent, I believe I can offer a unique perspective that enables me to empathize with the cultural and societal challenges my clients may encounter. I recognize the significance of considering each client's background and cultural context in tailoring interventions that resonate with their individual needs and experiences. Ultimately, my goal is to create a safe and inclusive space where clients feel understood, empowered, and equipped with the tools to navigate life's complexities and embark on a journey towards holistic well-being.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session I will complete an intake assessment to gather as much information to better assess and get to know you, your history, and what concerns have brought you to therapy and therefore set up goals. The following sessions, we will engage in talk therapy while pulling from various modalities to help you achieve your goals. Our sessions are 45 min in length on a weekly basis. Please allow 15 minutes before the session to do the intake paperwork. I PROVIDE PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES ONLY; PLEASE NOTE I DON’T PROVIDE MEDICATION MANAGEMENT SERVICES.

Read Carefully! Although she was polite, she is NOT able to prescribe, she does NOT specialize in Substance Abuse(addiction) and she is still in training. Wouldn't have been so terrible had I been made aware. Once again, I wasted time I didn't really have!
