“I’ve been seeing Alli for over three years now. I’ve struggled with mental health since childhood, and the progress I’ve made with Alli has changed my life. She never makes me feel bad for struggling, and I always feel better after talking through an issue with her. She provides resources like books and worksheets, so I can work on issues throughout the week. She is completely professional, while also being the kindest, most understanding, supportive, and just overall human therapists out there. For years I had chronic anxiety and waves of depression. Through working with Alli, I’m in such a good place now, going to college and excited about the future. She helps me with many issues, like family/friendship problems, major life changes, and sense of self. Working with her has helped me grow as a person, and I love who I am now. I wouldn’t be where I am without Alli, and I’m excited to continue my work with her. All of this to say, I would 1,000% recommend seeing Alli as your therapist.”

Getting to know Allison (Allie) Soss

Are you finding it difficult to cope with your overthinking, negative feelings, and anxious thoughts? Do these feelings relate to your appearance, self-worth, or accomplishments? Do thoughts like “I’m not good enough,” “I will never succeed,” “I’ll always be alone,” “I hate the way I look,” or “No one cares about me” sound familiar? Do your anxious thoughts affect your sleep, work, or social life? Do you feel the need for someone to truly hear you, see you, and validate your experience? Would you like to develop coping skills for anxiety related to your relationships, career, or communication? I work primarily with adults struggling to manage stress from relationships, career challenges, life transitions, self-esteem, communication, and boundaries. I believe therapy should help you find comfort and healing through an outside perspective. Using a collaborative approach, together we will discover the best ways to support you in overcoming anxious thoughts, overthinking, and negative feelings. My goal is to create a safe, empathetic, and inviting environment where you can achieve your goals and build long-lasting skills. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, Baruch, which informs my compassionate and evidence-based approach to therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy to help adults overcome negative self-talk, life transitions, relationship issues, and imposter syndrome and achieve an increased understanding of feelings, emotions, relationships, communication, and self-worth. By using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy we will be able to: -Learn techniques for coping with stressful life situations -Identify ways to manage emotions -Resolve relationship conflicts and learn better ways to communicate By using Person-Centered Therapy we will be able to: -Improve your self-awareness and self-concept (the way you see yourself) -Create a greater trust in yourself and your abilities -Create healthier relationships with others based on an improved view and understanding of yourself By combining these two approaches, I aim to create a collaborative environment within our therapy sessions because I believe you, as the client, have the ability to understand yourself and your concerns and you may just need some assistance in building the tools to manage and overcome them. Together, we will figure out how to build a relationship that will support you in the way that you need. At times I will encourage you to utilize what we discuss in our sessions and to practice these skills in your daily life. This will help you have a better understanding of yourself, and your needs, and how to incorporate these skills to suit you better individually. Together, we will be able to find comfort and understanding with what you are currently struggling with. You are not alone and the support you need is here. Contact me to start our work together.

Allison is an excellent therapist and I've been seeing her for over a year. When I started, I was nervous about therapy and had never sought mental health services before. She immediately made me feel comfortable, safe, and did a fantastic job at walking me through the process. Since seeing her, I've really been able to pinpoint where my anxiety comes from and what I can do to manage it day-by-day. I can't imagine not having a session every week; it has been such a game-changer for my mental health and I can't recommend her enough!
Allie is a truly fantastic therapist. I have been seeing her for over a year now and can confidently say she is the best therapist I have had. She is warm and non-judgmental but also firm; is extremely sharp and able to analyze and explain things in a clear, illuminating way; gives me actionable steps; and ultimately is genuinely invested in my care and my progress. I could not recommend her more, especially for women in their 20s/early 30s!
Allison Soss is amazing! She creates an environment that feels safe and very open. You can talk about anything and she will listen with her full attention. I look forward to my appointments with her.
Allison is phenomenal. She’s attentive, solves thought errors well and has a great way of teaching real coping skills on top of talking through issues. She puts the humanity back into therapy, and even though things were virtual I definitely felt seen.
