“As the first therapist I've ever spoken with, you can imagine I was a bit weary of the experience in general. I heard from my colleagues who went to therapy that it usually takes meeting a few to find someone you feel comfortable talking to. Thankfully, this was not the case when I met Allyson, as I've been seeing her for a few months now. She's super attentive and you can tell she listens to everything you say. She challenges me to look at my life from different points of view. She backs up her responses through different studies and research and it's apparent she has a passion for helping others. It's very apparent she speaks to you in the way you best understand, which I think is incredibly important, to cater to your client and how they process information. I highly recommend her.”

Getting to know Alyson Curtis

Please note: Citron Hennessey Therapy offers both in-network and out-of-network clinicians, depending on availability. --------------------- My ultimate passion is helping folx get more in alignment with who they really are and what they truly want out of life. Depending on your background, you underwent a unique process of domestication, where the life “rules” weren’t always laid out explicitly, but nevertheless dictated if you would be loved and accepted among family, friends, and peers. For some clients, the rules involved impossible beauty and body image standards, leading to disordered thoughts and behaviors around food and eating. For others, secure and healthy love wasn’t available from early attachment figures, so they learned to not need love and found other ways to cope. For some, those attachment wounds shape-shifted into workaholism and burnout, with a strong need to succeed and do everything perfectly. For others, it looked like following what everyone else told them was “right” regarding life decisions, but feeling confused and lost about what truly suits them. If you are feeling stuck or hopeless about where you’re at in life, your relationship to your body or food, feeling behind in dating and love, wanting help to look more deeply at how your attachment can be impeding you from finding or having the love you really want, or feeling like your current career is not it but feeling paralyzed to even begin to broach a change, you may find solace in working with me. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from City University of New York, Brooklyn College. My treatment style is warm, engaged, and empathetic. I believe in taking an active, collaborative approach so we’re as efficient as possible. I will work with you to go at a pace that feels comfortable, whether you’re interested in symptom reduction of anxiety or processing emotional grief.

Alyson is such a great listener and you can tell she genuinely cares. wonderful bedside manner and always gives you something to think about after each session. She makes you feel comfortable and safe, and never judgmental.
I have been seeing Alyson for around 2 years. Her professional expertise, natural empathic abilities and her boundless guidance, patience and understanding are exactly what I was seeking in therapy. She has helped me illuminate negative patterns in my thinking, as well as work through traumas I didn't even realize were affecting me as much as they were. I enjoy and value our sessions and she always leaves me thinking about and processing things in new ways. I have seen strong progress on the issues I came to therapy to work out, and I would highly recommend her.
Alyson is an incredible therapist; I look forward to my visits with her as essential mental resets and clarifiers. At least in my case, her dedication towards forging a mutual bond and trust with her clients fosters truly honest and rewarding conversation. The time she's taken to get to know me means that not only does she have peerless insight into how to advise me, she does it better than I ever could have expected, utilizing the lines of communication established throughout our relationship to efficiently connect. Therapy is not always fun, but I always feel better for it; I couldn't ask for a better and more attentive therapist.
Alyson's empathy and attunement to my life issues has been hugely helpful over the last 6 months. I've grown a great deal more aware of my feelings, and my ability to show my self compassion has made strides in the right direction. Alyson's always on-time, follows the practice policies fairly and brings 110% to every visit.
Having never received therapy before, I was nervous to start but I have been made to feel very relaxed from the very beginning. They have also adapted very well to keep working during the COVID 19 quarantine period and this has been a huge positive for me. Despite only visiting Alyson for a short time I can already start to see improvements in the way I am feeling in general, through working at the techniques she is helping me develop.
I have seen Alyson for over two years. She has a warm and gentle approach. She has taught me to build trust within myself to lead a life that I deserve. I highly recommend working with Alyson, especially if this is your first time seeing a therapist.
