Getting to know Alyssa Hoyt

Alyssa is a relationship and trauma therapist who helps individuals and couples reconnect—with themselves, with one another, and with the life they want to lead. She specializes in healing the wounds of complex trauma, grief, and relational distress, which often show up as chronic anxiety, emotional disconnection, or repeated patterns of conflict and avoidance. Many of us are navigating busy, high-pressure lives that offer little time to slow down, reflect, or feel. Whether it’s the weight of expectations in work, parenting, or partnerships—or the impact of past trauma—our nervous systems can get stuck in survival mode: overthinking, shutting down, or losing ourselves in cycles that no longer serve us. Alyssa offers a compassionate, solution-focused space to make sense of these patterns and move beyond them. Her approach is rooted in the belief that healing happens through connection: to self, to others, and to a sense of meaning. She draws from Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Imago Relationship Therapy, Positive Psychology, and is a certified Brainspotting therapist—a powerful, neuroscience-informed modality for resolving trauma, anxiety, and emotional blocks at the body-brain level. Whether you’re a couple working to rebuild intimacy and communication, or an individual ready to heal trauma and reconnect with your purpose, Alyssa provides an integrative, culturally affirming process tailored to your goals. Together, you’ll build the insight, skills, and emotional safety needed for lasting change. Alyssa holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling from New York University and a Bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University. Let’s work together to create space for healing, connection, and the life you’re ready to live.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take an active, supportive approach to relationship and trauma therapy, creating a space where both individuals and partners feel heard, understood, and empowered. Together, we’ll work to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and deepen emotional connection. My style is collaborative, culturally affirming, and grounded in mind-body approaches that help you move through conflict and reconnect with what matters most. Every relationship is unique, and we’ll tailor our work to fit your specific needs and goals. I also offer Couples Therapy Intensives using the Encounter Centered Transformation model. It is a deeply connecting, experiential model that builds intimacy, heals old wounds, and can ignite the process of recovering from long term disconnection or betrayal. I offer intensives over the course of 2-4 days intensives or spaced out over 6 weeks. Please reach out to see if a Couples Intensive is right for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is collaborative and personalized to support your unique goals. Each session begins with intentional check-in time, and together we’ll shape the focus—whether it's working through a current trigger, healing past trauma, or strengthening communication. Both individual and couples therapy sessions are focused on reconnecting you with yourself and each other. I use integrative, mind-body methods—including Brainspotting, a powerful tool for processing emotional blocks and trauma—to help both individuals and couples shift out of stuck patterns and into meaningful change. Whether you're navigating conflict, disconnection, or major life transitions, we’ll work together to create a more connected, resilient, and fulfilling relationship.

Alyssa is a caring therapist who treats me with respect and genuine care. She has helped me so much.
Working with Alyssa was a productive and supportive experience overall. She helped us feel comfortable in an often uncomfortable setting and we walked away with a new communication skills that have lasted beyond our regular sessions.
Alyssa is wonderful. She has helped me through many transitions in the last few years including becoming a mother and a change in career. She is thoughtful, empathetic, encouraging, and lets me come to conclusions at my own pace.
I’ve had the privilege of getting to work with Alyssa for the past year as a solo-patient. Alyssa has been incredibly patient and helpful and I can’t recommend her enough truthly. Alyssa is an incomparably kind and intelligent psychotherapist who really cares about your progress and a true professional who has really changed my life for the better. In our sessions we’ve worked with both Brainspotting and Internal Family Systems as methods of therapy. Despite knowing little about these practices before I joined, Alyssa made them incredibly accessible to me and was a great tutor in helping me to understand how they worked. I truly believe that part of the reason my sessions with her have been so impactful is her mastery of brainspotting and IFS. She is also great at recommending additional materials that she’s come across that help you better build positive takeaways from your time with her. Alyssa gives you all the space you need to express yourself while at the same time helping to give you some really impactful, nuanced, and gentle insights that helps you arrive at conclusions on your own. Beyond Alyssa’s session, billing and rescheduling is incredibly easy and it never stood in the way of sessions. If you can have her as a therapist you’re incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated and caring professional providing guidance.
Alyssa is wonderful. I've been seeing her with my husband for couples' therapy for a few months, and she's the best therapist I've worked with. She does a great job listening without judgment and drawing out our thoughts and feelings with questions. Her work with us feels very grounded in theory and research, but in an organic way. I'd recommend her to anyone. She's also been promptly on time to all session and always given us the full time.
Alyssa did a great job helping me with what I wanted to work on in my relationship. My wife and I started couples therapy to address a specific issue and we are both very happy that we are working with Alyssa. We've been doing zoom sessions for about 4 months, and there's already been a lot of progress. Alyssa is a great listener and communicator. She recommends specific things to try and read, and I really appreciate that they are things she has tried and read herself in a lot of cases. I look forward to continuing to work with her!
Alyssa is an incredibly thoughtful therapist. I've had the pleasure of working with her since December 2020, throughout which she was considerate and professional as my situation significantly evolved. I appreciate the depth of trust and psychological safety that I feel when I work with Alyssa. In fact, I look forward to our sessions because they empower me to better understand myself, enhance my emotional and mental intelligence, and enable me to live a higher quality life. Alyssa is very knowledgeable; she's shared powerful book recommendations, effectively explained complex yet insightful concepts, and coached me through meaningful exercises to implement positive change. She also finds a balance between giving me space to reflect-out-loud, while gently facilitating the conversation to introspect deeper. Her experience working in the corporate and tech sector has also helped me see the nuance in growing both professionally and personally. I strongly recommend working with Alyssa and the PPA!
I have really enjoyed my time working with the Positive Psychology Associates practice! My therapist at the clinic, Alyssa Hoyt, has been been instrumental in helping me get curious about myself through parts work and Brainspotting techniques. She has helped me process past traumas and work towards healing internal wounds in a way that feels healthy and uplifting, not overwhelming or retraumatizing. I would highly recommend PPA and Alyssa!
