Getting to know Amanda Grannum

I work with adults who feel stuck in anxiety, worry, overthinking, or fear that gets in the way of living the life they want. This can show up as avoiding situations, putting things off, constantly second guessing yourself, seeking reassurance, or feeling controlled by uncomfortable emotions. My approach is active and structured. Together, we focus on what happens when strong emotions show up, how they influence your choices, and how to take steps toward what matters to you even when you do not feel calm or confident. Sessions are goal focused, and I often assign between session practice so therapy leads to real change, not just talking. Clients who do best with me are willing to participate actively, practice skills outside of session, and stay fully present during our time together. This may not be the best fit if you are looking for a passive or purely supportive space, or if you prefer to multitask during sessions. I help people learn how to respond differently to anxiety and strong emotions so they can live more fully.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is active and focused. We will not only talk about how you feel, but also look closely at what happens when strong emotions show up and how they influence your choices. I use a structured approach, which means we set clear goals and work toward them step by step. I often suggest things to practice between sessions so the work continues outside of our time together. This is an important part of progress. You do not need to feel better before taking action in therapy. In fact, much of our work is about learning how to move forward even when you feel anxious, uncomfortable, or unsure. This approach works best if you are able to be present during sessions and open to trying new skills. If you are looking for a space to vent without working toward change, or prefer to multitask during therapy, this may not be the best fit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is a structured, collaborative process focused on consistency, self-reflection, and active growth. I offer two ways of working together, and clients choose the format that best fits their needs: Weekly Therapy – This is my primary model. Weekly sessions allow us to build momentum, go deeper in the work, and create meaningful, lasting change. I ask clients who choose this model to commit to at least three months of weekly sessions before transitioning to a more flexible schedule. To support this commitment, I allow one late cancellation per month (less than 24 hours’ notice) without charge. Any additional late cancellations in the same month will be charged at the full session rate. No-shows (missing a session without notifying me at all) are always charged in full, regardless of frequency. As-Needed Therapy – Some clients prefer to schedule sessions based on need rather than committing to a regular time. In this model, you can reach out when you'd like to meet, and I’ll share my current availability. Please note that as-needed sessions do not reserve a recurring time slot, and availability may vary week to week. Regardless of the format, therapy with me is an active and intentional process. Sessions are dedicated time for reflection, emotional processing, and learning new tools to manage challenges like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or life transitions. I may assign tasks or reflections between sessions to help reinforce the work we’re doing together. If you’re ready to engage in this work—whether weekly or as-needed, I’ll be here to support and guide you every step of the way.

Amanda has been a tremendous help to both my wife and me. My wife was going through a difficult time, and I struggled to support her. I kept making the same decisions over and over but expecting different results. I did not trust myself. I met with other counselors but they were not right for me. A friend referred me to Ms. Amanda and she got me right away! I’m no longer making the same decisions over and over, our sessions are guiding me to the realization that I am enough, my decisions are valid, and I can trust and believe in myself as I keep pushing forward.
The thought of going to therapy had never ever crossed my mind; I would just go to church. But after a really rough period, it was recommended that I talk to someone, and I'm happy I gave this a try. Amanda made talking about difficult things easier. She really listened and helped me work through stuff I never thought I could talk about. I'm really grateful for her support.

I find Amanda to be very good at pulling out the root of the problem and bringing it to awareness. Amanda was able to help me learn what some of my safety requirements were in a loving relationship. Because of our sessions I I've learned how to better implement boundaries and that has helped create better relationships that are more fulfilling.
I'm grateful for the support I received from Amanda during a challenging time after a car accident. She was compassionate and helped me understand and navigate my emotions and regain a sense of stability.
Amanda was incredibly supportive in helping me navigate anxieties about starting a family for the first time. As first-generation Caribbean individuals, her relatability was invaluable, and our sessions were often filled with laughter, making the therapeutic process feel more approachable. She skillfully guided me through my anxieties, making therapy feel less daunting.
Ms. Grannum was very helpful. I appreciated her ability to listen and provide practical guidance and support. She provided me with tools that enabled me to utilize them long after our sessions. I strongly recommend her.
