Getting to know Amanda Massa

As a licensed therapist in New York and Connecticut with a Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University, my priority is creating an emotionally safe environment for my clients that fosters trust and acceptance. The therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in determining the success of therapy. When a client feels emotionally safe, they are able to be vulnerable and share their deepest feelings and concerns. This allows us to collaborate and dive deeply into your goals to generate a positive therapeutic outcome. It is also my priority to create a space that is inclusive of all individuals and to utilize an anti-oppressive framework that fosters an emotionally safe space of non-judgment, warmth, and understanding. I have a genuine curiosity about my clients and love to get to know them on a deep level. In your 20s and 30s, there are many unanswered questions or things you might feel the need to figure out. Whether it’s finding a career you’re passionate about and successful in, establishing steady romantic and platonic relationships, or developing new hobbies, this uncertainty can create a lot of stress in your life. For this reason, you may struggle with feelings of not being good enough, which can lead to a sense of hopelessness, confusion, and frustration about life and what it should be. You might strive to be part of something bigger and constantly compare yourself to others to see how you measure up. Or, you may feel pressured to conform to societal expectations of success and happiness in order to be accepted. Often, we receive messages in childhood, from family, friends, and social media, that acceptance is important, yet simultaneously struggle with feelings of loneliness, inadequacy, and disarray that arise from trying to achieve it.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I received my Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University and have had the privilege of working with people with a wide variety of anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, low self-esteem, and interpersonal problems. I also specialize in body image, disordered eating relative to guilt and shame associated with food, and eating disorders. I particularly enjoy helping people with perfectionism, excessive worrying, low self-esteem, and obsessive compulsive disorder. I also love to work with adolescents, young adults, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. My approach is collaborative and goal-oriented with the use of specific evidence-based strategies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Mindfulness. It is truly a privilege to help my clients heal and regain a deeper understanding of themselves. I would love the opportunity to build this type of relationship with you and work together to support you in creating impactful change in your life. Wherever you are on your journey, we can navigate it together.

Amanda is an amazing therapist who truly cares about her patients. I’ve been seeing her since last year and since then she has been a great listener who pushes you to do things outside of your comfort zone and focuses on things that we often don’t realize we need to work on.
I have been working with Amanda for over a year now. She’s a truly gifted therapist who makes you feel so comfortable and safe. She’s so kind! She’s wonderfully insightful and has already helped me through many life transitions. What I also love about Amanda is that she really gives you tools to feel empowered and to start reframing and dealing with your issues. You will often find a week after a session you changing the way you approach an issue based on talks you’ve had with her which is pretty cool. I think she’s a truly compassionate, helpful therapist who is wonderful to work with!
Amanda is incredibly thoughtful and can always find the lesson in my experiences. She has given me strategies and a more positive way of thinking that allows me to move through my obstacles with a new perspective!
I've been working with Amanda for a while now and I'm so grateful for everything she's helped me through. She's incredibly warm and empathetic—always made me feel safe and understood. She's taught me so many helpful tools, especially for managing OCD and reframing my self-image. I’ve grown a lot in the way I talk to myself and handle anxious thoughts, and I truly feel like I’m walking away with lifelong skills. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for real support and growth.
I’ve been working with Amanda for a few years now, and I always appreciate her kind and compassionate care. She lets you direct the focus of each session, but makes sure to regularly check in on long term goals or concerns. I feel very comfortable talking to her at every session, and I regularly use the tools and strategies that we’ve discussed.
Amanda is an excellent therapist who is gentle, patient and understanding. She has helped me build my self confidence and minimize my self doubt. We work through setting boundaries and understanding emotions. She is extremely flexible with scheduling and understands conflicts can happen and handles them with grace. She balances her sessions between productive conversations, or just days where there may be no improvement made but just a ear to listen. She makes your time about you and how you want to choose it, while also steering you towards mental health improvement techniques like visuals, I am very happy with our sessions and my own personal progress and improvement and I highly recommend amanda to anyone seeking a therapist.
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Amanda—the tools she gave me and the work we did truly made such a difference in my quality of life. She was also extremely helpful in working with me to find a new therapist when my insurance changed and her practice was no longer in-network. Highly recommend!
Amanda has been an amazing asset in helping me reach personal goals. I've never felt so seen with a therapist in a way where I actually feel supported and encouraged to grow. I appreciate her so much!
Amanda provides excellent services and is very patient and communicative. She creates a safe, comfortable environment that is free of judgment. She has helped me learn and apply new tools that have made a big difference in my mental health!
I've worked on-and-off with different therapists for the last 7 years and by far, over the last 2 years, it has been Amanda who has best helped me work with/through my anxiety, challenge myself, and has seen me through some of my most significant personal transformation. She is endlessly compassionate, reminding me to be gentle with myself. I adore her candor and where others mights default to clinical speak she communicates in very direct and accessible language. Whereas other therapists have come off as distant, I've always felt that she is genuinely invested in my wellbeing. I would highly recommend Amanda to anyone dealing with generalized anxiety and, as a nonbinary transmasc client myself, to anyone within the queer/trans community looking for deeply compassionate care.
Amanda worked with Me on many CBT techniques from Anxiety to Depression. She allows her Patients to choose which ons work best for Me. Amanda is the best Therapist I have had it has been over 30 years that I have been in Therapy.
Amanda has been my therapist for over 3 years now and has helped me beyond words. I feel so much more confident as a person and my ability to make clear decisions without anxiety or other mental health blocks. I truly cannot recommend her enough!!
Amanda is a wonderful therapist! She is easy to relate to and she always notes things down to talk about for next time if you run out of time. She is reachable by text and can schedule quick 15 minute sessions for emergent situations if needed. She's also very flexible and will work with your schedule. She is also your ultimate hype person when it comes to big events like engagements!!
Amanda is warm, kind and empathetic. She is a great communicator and conversationalist. She is compassionate and sensitive while at the same time objective and rational. She is up to date on cultural trends. All of which are things I didn't ever really associate with a good therapist. But it was working with Amanda that I realized, these are the things that differentiate an effective therapist from a waste of time. She is easy to open up to and has never once made me feel judged or bad about myself. She utilizes cognitive behavioral techniques and seamlessly intertwines them with current circumstances as well as linking its relevance to past behaviors, patterns, relationships in a ways that are so accessible. I love that she emphasizes taking action and forward motion. She never lets me fall into the therapy trap, which is talking too much about the past and mistaking understanding the past for progress. Amanda delivers real progress.
Amanda is extremely empathetic and helpful. Working with her has completely changed my life! She’s an incredible listener and offers solutions / support when necessary. I can’t reccomend her enough.
Amanda is amazing! She creates such a comfortable space for clients by being caring, easy to talk to, and an incredible listener. The techniques/strategies she has introduced to me have greatly helped me cope with my anxiety and panic. I would recommend her to anybody!
Dr. Massa is an incredible, thoughtful and empathetic practitioner. Open-minded, kind, and a staunch advocate for her clients, I was able to achieve a new level of mental health thanks to her guidance. Through my work with her, I also adopted several new practices- journaling, meditation, and treatment specific exercises. These are practices I carry with me even after our ongoing sessions. A particularly helpful approach she employs is referring her clients to additional resources (books, videos, etc) that will assist in their desired area of personal growth. Dr. Massa is truly invested in her patients' long-term mental health, personal growth and development. She will be an outstanding asset to your care team!
Amanda is the most supportive and understanding therapist I have ever had. She makes an effort to connect with you and help you through anything. She has certainly impacted me positively and I always look forward to speaking to her!
