Did you spend your childhood walking on eggshells, learning to tune out your own needs to keep the peace, or suppressing your true self to manage someone else’s moods? Now, as an adult, do you tend toward people-pleasing or over-functioning at the expense of yourself? Have trouble setting boundaries or saying "no"? Fear that you are “too much” or “not enough?” Struggle to identify or express your emotions? If this sounds like you, you don’t have to carry this all on your own! I specialize in helping individuals who grew up with emotionally immature, unavailable or overly reactive parents break free from the weight of the past and I'm dedicated to helping you create the life you deserve. Our work together will help you grow from surviving life to thriving. The ways you learned to cope aren’t failures—they were survival strategies. I'm committed to creating a safe and compassionate space to help you begin to understand how those past experiences have shaped your relationships, sense of self and emotional well being. Together, we will work towards growth at a pace that feels right for you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of your experiences. It’s a place for curiosity, healing, and personal growth. You can expect compassion, honesty, and collaboration as we work toward helping you feel more grounded, connected, and in control of your life. We will work together collaboratively to help you understand yourself, improve coping skills, and work toward your goals. You can expect respect, understanding, and gentle encouragement as we explore your experiences and identify steps toward lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initial sessions are for me getting to know you and exploring together how I can best support you in this process. We will spend some time talking about your life experiences and any impact those may have had on you. We will also explore current stressors and any goals that you may want to address during your time in therapy. From there, each session moving forward will be a collaborative process that aims to address any goals you may desire to accomplish while engaging in therapy. Therapy isn't a one size fits all approach, so depending on your presenting issue and current coping around your experiences, therapeutic interventions utilized may vary throughout our work together. This is generally referred to as an integrative or eclectic approach to therapy. Session length is typically 53 minutes (referred to as the therapeutic hour), so our first few minutes will be spent checking in regarding any progress and/or challenges over the past week, then focus the bulk of our time on exploring, processing, gaining skills and insight into current and past concerns. From there, we will spend the last few minutes of our time wrapping up and discussing what was helpful during our session and strategies that may be used throughout the next week to continue supporting you in progressing toward your goal. The length of one’s engagement in therapy is often dependent upon the severity of their presenting concerns and responsiveness to treatment interventions. Often, people start to feel relief from their presenting symptoms in 8-12 sessions, again, however, that can vary greatly dependent upon presenting concerns. We will revisit length of treatment periodically throughout our work together and work together to ensure that our therapy sessions are terminated when it feels therapeutically appropriate for you to do so.
