Getting to know Amy C. Storey

My intention is to help clients create the lives they wish for themselves. Living with integrity, agency, and authenticity often requires relinquishing deep-seated habits of accommodating others. This process can involve grief, depression, identity crises, self-esteem challenges, existential anxiety, creative blocks, life transitions, and crises of faith. Together, we will move beyond the residue of past trauma, identify narratives and patterns that no longer serve you, and focus on what, specifically, YOU want for yourself in this life. I especially enjoy working with people in the arts. I think of therapy as a co-created relationship based on trust that can be curative in itself. While mutually engaged in gaining insight and creating meaning, I draw upon creative processes and use non-verbal forms such as imagery, dream, and metaphor to penetrate underlying motivations and uncover inaccessible feelings and memories. I hold a Master's in Art Therapy from New York University, a PhD from the University of Colorado, and a Master's in Fine Art from Johnson State College and the Vermont Studio Center. I have also trained in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity. With over twenty years of experience in the therapeutic field, including bodywork modalities, and a lifelong involvement in the arts, I have found that when attempting to change aspects of ourselves that no longer serve us, it is essential to simultaneously encourage our healthy ideals and strivings.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am very present and engaged in the therapeutic relationship, although the focus will always be on what is beneficial to YOU, the client. I will listen very closely to you and will try to reflect back to you what I hear, tailoring my responses and treatment accordingly.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide talk therapy. However, if you are in the arts or have an artistic practice, we can also use that as a medium of communication.

I have felt comfortable and at ease with Amy from day one. She holds a calm, inviting space which feels safe and completely judgement-free; encouraging me to ask important questions which I feel are helping me to evolve and grow, build confidence and form healthy habits and positive outlooks. She has a lot of great suggestions and ideas to consider. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking to do some inner exploration!
Amy is a wonderful and dedicated therapist. She is committed to providing thorough and sustained involvement in my progress, and over the course of 3 years I've been able to grow in a safe and understanding environment. Her non-judgemental practice and open mind allow me to share my thoughts and feelings with honesty. I highly recommend her as a guide on the therapeutic journey.
Amy speaks to you with such wisdom and passion! You can almost feel that She WILL help you as soon as you meet her. Amy gave me an amazingly life changing sessions that permanently put me on the right track.
I have been working with Amy for three years now and I can say that seeing her has tremendously changed my life in many positive ways, from behavioral adjustments to supporting me in making some of the most crucial career decisions in the past years. My field is creative writing and film, and Amy’s lifesaving experience in the world of art, has been a great addition to better assess my needs. Amy is patient, kind, knowledgeable and in general an outstanding therapist. She takes the time and reflection to give feedback and what I mostly appreciate about her is the heart she dedicates to her work, in addition to the life experience which accounts for the wisdom she brings to the sessions. I absolutely recommend seeing Amy Story as a therapist.
Amy is an incredible therapist. I have been seeing her for a year, and the support & care has been literally life changing. She is intuitive and insightful, and most importantly patient. Would recommed her to almost everyone.
I didn't know how much healing I had to do, or how transformative it could be until I started sessions with Amy. I am very discerning when it comes to any "work" that doesn't involve a paycheck (hahaha). But, because Of Amy's overwhelming generosity, I felt safe to do the inner work, even when it got hard, and I felt like I wouldn't see it through or it might not amount to anything. In Amy, I feel like someone is helping me see that only I can guide me back to myself, and no matter how lost I feel, I'm still on track. I attribute my growth and confidence to Amy's intelligence, compassion, and personalized attention. I feel so fortunate to have a therapist who understands and supports me the way she does. I highly recommend her! I want anyone who is struggling to be blessed to have the experiences that I've had in her sessions - and know that there will come a tough time when they have to apply those tools, and Amy's support will see them through.
I have been seeing Amy for two years. She is far and away the best therapist I have had. She is kind, gives incredibly thoughtful feedback, patient and asks the hard questions I need to move forward and advance in my self evolution. She is very organized, professional and always courteous. I recommend her highly to anyone seeking therapy in NYC.
Ms. Storey is amazing! I’ve been seeing Ms. Storey for over five years now and she has literally saved my life. She is very patient and she adhere to all my issues. I would recommend her services to anyone because she is simply the BEST!
