Getting to know Andrew Beecher

I have over 35 years of experience treating adults, with a special interest in working with clients 55 years and over. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from New York University and have specialized training in psychodynamic psychotherapy. I am also a board-certified diplomate in clinical social work. I am licensed in New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Florida, and Vermont.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy is a collaborative process that is rooted in our individual desire for hope for change. My clinical approach is eclectic without a particular theoretical bias or exclusive focus on any specific technique.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I see therapy as a specialized type of conversation. My job is to listen without judgment and respond by saying something that will help you understand and overcome the barriers that have gotten in the way of your being the authentic self you wish to be.

Andrew was my therapist at SPOP for several years. He is highly intelligent, knowledgeable, has a sense of humor( extremely important in my estimation),easy to talk to,sensitive,a good listener. There is no fluff or pretension with him. He helps you to focus on your goals and accentuates your positive traits. He sticks with the program with ease and professionalism. I highly recommend him...you'd be lucky to have him as your therapist.
Andrew Beecher is intelligent, understanding, kind, very sensible & sensitive, moral, well-educated, cultured (an avid music & arts lover), and very easy to work and talk with, firm when that's called for, but also flexible, and highly compassionate, understanding, and wise. You couldn't find a better therapist.
Already up there in age and having an advanced disease and no family except one daughter who’d had a stroke, I badly needed someone to hear me and offer advice. And I got the help I needed for a number of years from Andrew Beecher, then with SPOP (Service Program for Older People). Mr. Beecher, who is highly intelligent and empathic, listened carefully to and understood my concerns, and consistently offered good, actionable advice. He was also always on time for appointments. I would definitely recommend Andrew Beecher to anyone seeking therapy.
Andrew was a seriously empathic person....We spoke os may things, with no shame or ambivalence. WE had a wonderful relationship built on trust and understanding!
Andrew is a compassionate, expert therapist. no Woo-woo, he cuts right to the chase with practical advice. Helped me a great deal to take possession of myself.
Andrew’s insightful, compassionate advice helped me through a particularly stressful period. I felt that I could share problems with him without worrying about judgement, and his sense of humor and gentle prodding was appreciated. At times, problems can seem overwhelming - Andrew helped me break things down into small, manageable issues.
Andrew should be the model for those in his position. He is compassionate, direct, thorough and an amazing listener who helps with creative resources and kind follow up. I find that the time I have spent with me has been so important to my well being. I give him the highest recommendation without the slightest reservation. He is thoroughly professional. In a word, he is terrific.
I saw Andrew to hep me cope with the depression and anxiety. My partner was showing signs of cognitive decline and It was a very difficult time in my life. Andrew was both empathic and knowledgeable and helped me to cope with all that was going on, both emotionally and practically.
