Getting to know Dr. Andrew Quinn

I am a graduate of NYU with an MA in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling. Additionally, I hold a law degree from Yale Law School, as well as a BA in music, specializing in musicology with voice as my principal instrument, and a BA history from the University of Michigan, specializing in US economic, political and social history. I have also studied comparative philosophy, including Western, Eastern, and African ways of knowing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I practiced as an attorney for many years, and gained experience, first with the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc., as an Earl Warren Scholar, and later, as a specialist in asset management law, practicing with a number of leading corporate law firms and hedge funds. In the aggregate, these settings afforded me a rare perspective on global commerce, the concentration of wealth, the deep architecture of power, and the way in which these structures are inseparably and densely entangled with questions of mental health and wellness, particularly for historically disadvantaged communities. With experience working alongside an exceptionally diverse range of individuals, I integrate client-centered, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and social-contextual approaches to adapt to your moment-to-moment needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our collaboration, your dignity will be honored, your vulnerability will be appreciated, your courage will be acknowledged, and your pain will be met with empathy and care. I have an abiding faith in your innate capacity to heal, to flourish, and to shape the way in which you are being shaped. The movement forward is the return to yourself. Your community. Your life.
