Dr. Ann Hetzel, PhD

Psychologist
4285 Morse Rd, Gahanna, OH
My name is Dr. Hetzel. I am honored to meet you! I work gently and supportively to communicate with autistic individuals, LGBTQIA people, elder adults, those who have experienced T/trauma, and who may be diagnosed with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as individuals who experience anxiety. My approach When treating folks, I consider the person, their personality, and what has brought them to therapy before considering possible therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing Therapy, etc. At that point, the patient and I discuss the best options. My focus My ideal patients are individuals who want to be in psychotherapy and who are willing to do the work necessary to achieve the outcomes that we've discussed and agreed upon; those outcomes that will change their lives for the better. My communication style Honestly, I use many different communication styles depending on the situation. I am usually a very gentle communicator, as well as warm and understanding. I can be directive if necessary; however, that is not my "go-to" style. My journey to mental healthcare I was initially a musician and a music educator. Then my son was born, and he was diagnosed with autism. At that time, I decided to return to school and become a psychologist. So, mine was anything but the traditional path to becoming a psychologist! My goals for you I choose to empower and support my patients so that, with some guidance, they are well able to meet their goals. I am just the flashlight, patients do everything else...and they can! My first session with you The initial session includes questions that will help me get to know you, your strengths, and your goals. I will also inquire as to your mental health history and any diagnoses you may have. Please understand that I will re-evaluate any current diagnoses if anything has changed or there was a misunderstanding.
