“working with Anna has been so refreshing: she is kink and LGBTQ affirming and I don’t have to hide any part of myself in our sessions. I used to think privacy was one of my core values, but I’ve come to realize that could sometimes mean I was keeping secrets, from myself most of all. I didn’t realize how liberating it would feel to be able to discuss all aspects of my life in therapy, but it’s actually helped me open up whole new channels in my relationships with partners, family and friends. I’m so glad I found Anna! The trust we’ve built is really change-making”

Getting to know Anna Young

We are born into story and expectations. Sometimes, being ourselves is not safe. Without nurturing relationships, we work hard to survive on our own. We may avoid belonging or over-focus on fitting in. Options feel limited, and our choices may not feel like our own. You may achieve the ‘right’ education, profession, presentation, or partner, but does it feel right for you? Deciphering our feelings can unleash many questions and overwhelm. The good news is, you do not have to face change alone. Trust is a practice we can write together. Our stories are ours for the telling—and loving. I ground you in your strengths and anchor you in your present power. As shame or guilt arise, I offer compassion and accountability. Therapy is a collaborative discovery of you. We’ll pay attention to your feelings, the signals of your needs and wants. Previously, feelings may have required denial. Here, they’re stars in your sky guiding you home. We all bring nuanced lineages to therapy. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work, which informs my approach to supporting you on this journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work from a trauma informed, anti-oppressive lens to affirm your experience. AEDP, IFS and psychodynamic therapy are creative tools for change. With a background in performance, I center your body, non-verbal expressions, rhythms and imagination.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When taught you're not enough, your own desires can be hard to define and pursue. Belonging may feel risky. I work with adolescent and adults, LGBTQIA2plus, Neurodiverse people, artists, caregivers, care/service workers and people in life transition, and/or recovery. Together we explore your relationship to self and your feelings, to build trust, confidence & self-advocacy skills. In intimate, platonic and kin relationships with others, at work, or in community, you deserve reciprocity and love.

Anna put me at ease immediately.. she was so kind and so perceptive that all my anxiety about going to therapy dissipated… she has helped me look inward and discover parts of myself I have spent a lifetime avoiding … it has been an incredibly freeing and enlightening experience… with Anna as my guide I am finally able to alleviate fears that have held me back from living the life I now believe I am capable of living .. thank you, Anna!
Working with Anna has been truly life changing. She helped me uncover and gently work through deep-rooted trauma I didn’t even realize I was still carrying. Over time, I’ve felt my anxiety ease and my ability to cope grow stronger. I’m so grateful for her guidance and support. She always makes me feel safe and held, even when we’re doing brave work.
Working with Anna has allowed me to see the connections between my role as a caregiver and my experiences as a kid who was treated like an adult. Making that connection has helped me reassess your responsibilities and set loving boundaries.
I had a hard time finding a therapist who supports and pushes me to think about my patterns without shame, getting stuck. Anna makes me feel proud of and less ashamed of all my parts. This has helped me grow in ways I couldn't imagine.
I started working with Anna recently and already feel a big difference. I’ve been dealing with feelings of self-blame and low self confidence for awhile, and she’s helped me find new ways to manage. Where I used to feel depressed and stuck, I’m now feeling more hopeful and in control. I really enjoy working with her and have recommended her to friends!
Anna is a compassionate and perceptive listener, and I’m so grateful to have found her! She helped me make important connections between my feelings and thoughts. And she gave me life-changing tools to breaking old negative patterns.
