Getting to know Anthony Abruzzo

Hi, I'm Anthony, and I know what it feels like when the world treats you one way and you know yourself to be something else entirely. I was the overweight kid growing up with one friend, constantly teased for being different. Then I lost 120 pounds and watched how completely people's behavior toward me changed based on appearance alone, while nothing inside me had changed at all. That experience gave me an understanding of self-perception and confidence that runs through my clinical work today, whether I'm sitting with a kid who feels like an outsider or an adult who's spent years defining themselves by how other people see them.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with children ages 10 and up, adolescents, adults, and couples navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and identity. I'm not an overly agreeable therapist and will tell you if there’s a gap between what you're saying and what you're doing. Clients tell me I'm down-to-earth and that they appreciate being challenged rather than just validated.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I don't want therapy to be another place where you're reduced to what's supposedly wrong with you. I've learned from my own life that pain can become purpose if someone helps you find the meaning in it. That's what I'm here to do - guide you to start seeing what's right. Come in and let's talk. Nothing more, nothing less.
