What should a new client know about working with you?

I see psychotherapy as a collaborative process of discovery. Together, we’ll explore the conscious and unconscious roots of emotional pain, confusion, and patterns that may leave you feeling stuck. My approach integrates psychoanalytic thinking, liberation psychology, and Acceptance and Commitment principles, allowing us to consider both your inner world and the cultural, social, and relational contexts that shape your experience. Our work may involve developing greater insight into longstanding patterns, making space for experiences that have been difficult to express, and identifying ways to live with greater flexibility, agency, and connection to your values, relationships, and sense of self. I believe therapy should be a place where you can be curious about yourself without fear of judgment or having to defend who you are. I offer affirming, sex-positive, trauma-informed care to people across diverse racial, gender, sexual, relationship, and religious identities, with particular experience and commitment to LGBTQ+, BIPOC, kink, polyamorous/CNM, trans, GNC, and sex-working communities. My lived experience in LGBTQ+ and adult-industry communities, combined with my work as a journalist and clinician, has shaped my commitment to cultural humility and to understanding people beyond the labels or assumptions placed upon them. You won’t be expected to educate me about your identity, relationships, or community. At the same time, I view clinical competence as an ongoing process and approach each client with curiosity, openness, consultation, and a willingness to learn. Most importantly, I want our work to be a space where you feel respected, understood, and free to explore what a more meaningful and fulfilling life might look like for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work begins with getting to know you and the experiences that have shaped how you move through the world. Early sessions are an opportunity for us to develop a shared understanding of your concerns, relationships, history, and goals. We’ll work collaboratively to identify patterns that may be contributing to distress while also considering the cultural, social, and relational contexts in which those patterns developed. There is no single formula for what happens in a session. Some sessions may focus on a particular challenge or recent experience; others may involve exploring recurring thoughts, emotions, relationships, memories, or patterns that emerge between us. I may offer observations, ask questions, introduce therapeutic exercises, or invite you to look at an experience from a different perspective. My approach integrates psychoanalytic thinking, liberation psychology, and Acceptance and Commitment principles, so our work balances deeper exploration and insight with practical attention to your values, choices, and goals. I view therapy as an active collaboration rather than a process where I simply provide answers. We’ll regularly check in about how the work is going and adjust our focus as your needs evolve. My goal is to create enough safety and trust for meaningful exploration while helping you develop greater flexibility, self-understanding, agency, and connection in your life.
