I believe therapy works best when it combines compassion, curiosity, practical tools, and honest reflection. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood and supported while developing the insight and skills needed to create meaningful change. My background is somewhat unique. In addition to my counseling training, I hold a Ph.D. in Research, Assessment, and Evaluation and spent more than a decade working in mental health research and program evaluation. This experience helps me identify patterns, think critically about challenges, and tailor therapy to each person rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. I also bring specialized experience in financial wellness and financial stress. As a financial coach and YNAB Certified Coach, I have seen how money affects mental health, relationships, identity, and life decisions. I am passionate about helping people build healthier relationships with money and create financial lives that align with their values. My work is informed by both professional and personal experience with chronic health conditions, international and cross-cultural living, and the pursuit of financial independence. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the complexity of people's lives and the many factors that influence well-being. I particularly enjoy working with thoughtful, growth-oriented adults, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people living with chronic illness, immigrants and expats, those pursuing financial independence, and individuals from yogic, geeky, nerdy, creative, and alternative lifestyle communities. Many of my clients are curious people who value self-reflection and are open to being challenged in ways that support their growth. Above all, I believe lasting change happens when insight is paired with action. My hope is that our work together helps you better understand yourself, build on your strengths, and create a life that feels more aligned with your values and goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to the counseling relationship. Alongside my background in counseling, mental health research, evaluation, and yoga, I have personally navigated chronic health challenges, cross-cultural and international living, and a Financial Independence (FIRE) journey. These experiences help me understand that many of life's struggles are more complex and nuanced than they may appear. I connect especially well with curious, thoughtful people who are interested in personal growth and open to being challenged. Many of my clients have spent years thinking about their struggles and are looking for more than insight alone. They want practical tools, new perspectives, and support creating meaningful change. I have a particular passion for helping people improve their relationship with money. Financial stress affects emotional well-being, relationships, career decisions, and overall quality of life. My background in financial coaching allows me to bring a perspective that is uncommon in traditional counseling while remaining grounded in evidence-based mental health care. I also enjoy working with people who have felt different, misunderstood, or out of place. This includes members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people navigating identity and belonging, those living with chronic illness, immigrants and expats, members of yogic and mindfulness communities, individuals pursuing financial independence, and people from geeky, nerdy, creative, or alternative lifestyle communities. Above all, I strive to create a space where you can bring your whole self. I bring warmth, curiosity, compassion, and honest reflection to our work together. My role is not to tell you who to be, but to help you better understand yourself, build on your strengths, develop new skills and perspectives, and create a life that feels more aligned with your values and goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I aim to make the counseling process feel welcoming, collaborative, and purposeful from the start. Many clients begin with a free 15-minute consultation where we can discuss what brings them to counseling, answer questions, and see whether we're a good fit for working together. If we decide to move forward, our first few sessions focus on getting to know you as a whole person, not just the challenges that led you to seek support. We'll explore your current concerns, personal history, strengths, values, relationships, and goals for counseling. Together, we'll identify what you'd like to change, strengthen, or better understand. From there, we develop a plan tailored to your unique needs. My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and practical. I believe insight matters, but meaningful change also requires action. Sessions often include exploring patterns, building self-awareness, strengthening coping and communication skills, and developing strategies you can apply in daily life. Depending on your needs, we may also incorporate mindfulness, body-based awareness, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques. Throughout the process, I regularly check in on what's working, what's not, and whether our approach needs adjustment. My background in mental health research and evaluation helps me thoughtfully assess progress and adapt our work to best support your goals. Clients often describe me as warm, curious, and supportive, but I also gently challenge people when needed. Whether you're navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship concerns, financial stress, chronic illness, identity questions, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to help you better understand yourself, build practical skills, and create meaningful, lasting change that aligns with your values and the life you want to live.
