Getting to know Ashana Badlani

As the founder of ANB Therapy, I specialize in a holistic and culturally attuned approach to mental health, with a focus on supporting South Asian and Asian clients. My Indian heritage, combined with my upbringing in Dubai and my move to New York to earn my Ed.M. and M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University, has deeply shaped how I approach therapy. These experiences have provided me with a unique understanding of the cultural, racial, gender, and sexual orientation factors that influence mental health. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I integrate a whole-being approach to wellness that nurtures both the mind and body. At ANB Therapy, I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address mental health challenges, while incorporating somatic practices, mindfulness techniques, and breathwork to strengthen the mind-body connection. I am also certified as an Integrative Trauma Practitioner, which enhances my ability to help clients process past trauma, and I am Level One trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy, supporting couples in improving communication and building stronger connections. This blend of evidence-based methods fosters self-awareness, resilience, and personal growth. I’ve worked at private practices, non-profits, and residential treatment centers, where I’ve gained valuable experience with a wide range of clients. I believe that mental health is deeply intertwined with culture and identity, and I’m passionate about helping clients embrace their whole selves. My approach is centered on creating a safe, inclusive space for healing, mindfulness, and personal growth, where clients can explore their mental health in the context of their unique backgrounds.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I employ a holistic therapeutic approach, considering clients' diverse backgrounds and addressing their overall well-being, including both physical and mental aspects for optimal growth. Using a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches, I meet clients where they are in their journey. Additionally, I actively promote physical health by encouraging regular movement, guiding nutritious eating habits, and emphasizing the importance of quality sleep. Mindfulness practices are integrated to enhance stress management and overall emotional balance. My goal is to provide comprehensive support for clients' mental and physical flourishing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe in creating a collaborative and empathetic therapeutic relationship with my clients. Our journey together typically begins with an initial assessment session where we discuss your concerns, goals, and any relevant background information. This helps me gain a comprehensive understanding of your unique experiences and challenges. From there, we work together to develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your specific needs and objectives. Throughout our sessions, I utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques and interventions to address and explore the issues at hand. My goal is to empower you with coping skills, insights, and strategies that promote emotional well-being and personal growth. I am here to support you on your journey toward mental health and well-being, and together, we can work towards positive and lasting change.

I had the opportunity to visit with Ashana and it was an incredible experience. She listened to my thoughts and asked insightful questions which led me to understand next steps for my issues. I will definitely be seeing her again.
In my intake I indicated that I’m a working mother navigating relevant issues. The provider wasn’t available and had me a member of their team who seemed very young and inexperienced with no children.

Ashana is an incredibly kind, patient, and compassionate therapist. I am grateful for her care and strong sense of empathy which she has utilized as a healing toolset within her mental health practices. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking warm hearted care.
I’ve been seeing Ashana for nearly 5 years now and would confidently recommend her to anyone looking to work critically on their mental health. Working with Ashana has helped me identify patterns and respond with more clarity to challenges in life. She’s professional, thoughtful, and truly cares for her clients.
Extremely fulfilling experience working with Ashana - she listens so well and is easy to open up to. I felt very comfortable from my first session. Highly recommend.
Ashana has lead me to better mental health and assisted me in creating healthy boundaries. She listens and responds with insightful feedback that causes me to improve my thinking and behaviors/reactions efficiently.
Ashana is incredibly personable and understanding in sessions, while also being direct. In my early sessions, I mentioned that I wanted therapy to be a conversation rather than just me talking for an hour. I appreciate that she continues to take that into account by talking through things with me and providing very helpful examples as well as bringing in scientific/behavioral research that can help explain what I might be going through. Above all, Ashana is exceptionally kind and non-judgmental in sessions, which has allowed me to open up and be honest, knowing that I am in a safe environment.
I have been working with Ashana for the last 4 years. She is a wonderful therapist - an active listener, an insightful questioner, and a collaborative problem solver. Ashana creates a safe space for me to voice my deepest concerns, and I always walk away from our sessions with a sense of relief and clarity on how to approach the obstacles at hand.
Really helpful in identifying what I needed and how to get there. Ashana was mindful of where I needed more guidance and created a really supportive and trusting environment.
I've been working with Ashana since 2020. She has always been kind, thoughtful, and culturally sensitive. I appreciate her for all the work we have done together and would recommend her to anyone seeking some help in their journey.
Ashana is awesome. She's very understanding and takes time to develop a relationship I trust. I love that I can ask for homework and that she pushes me to do the work I sometimes know I should be doing but try to avoid.
I have been working with Ashana for over a year, and it has been an incredible experience. I am grateful for her ability to simultaneously give me the time I need to express myself freely and fully, while also making sure to ask the questions that I need to hear. She creates a very safe space.
I cannot recommend Dr Badlani enough for people who experience racism, xenophobia, PTSD, and intergenerational trauma. Her approach takes into account all of my experiences and how they interact rather than treating them in isolation. This has really helped me find my own coping mechanisms and practice them when I’m not in a session. It is really nice to have a therapist that understands your experience and heritage and how that affects your mental health. She also is in contact with my psychiatrist and takes a very holistic approach to my care. I feel very safe and heard as a patient!
I started using Ashana's services about 5 years ago. She has been a big part of my "adulting" and helping me throughout many parts of life from family, relationships, work to helping me become a confident woman. I always look forward to getting to our sessions, and getting some guidance or a different perspective. I recommend her wholeheartedly!
Ashana has been my therapist for about three years and having her to talk to has been incredibly helpful. She's non-judgmental and her complete focus is on helping you process and make progress, whatever that means for you. I look forward to our sessions and have been very happy with our sessions.
