Getting to know Ashley Pereira

Hi, I'm Ashley, and I thought I wanted to be a homicide detective. I was drawn to helping families find answers during the worst moments of their lives, but soon I realized it was the people I really cared about. I grew up with a learning disability that made me feel different from my peers until a school social worker helped me make sense of what I was experiencing. That relationship changed my life so profoundly that I recently reached out to tell her I became a licensed social worker because of her. I know firsthand what one connection with the right person at the right time can do, and that's what I want to offer you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with all ages, though I'm especially drawn to teenagers. I specialize in anxiety, social anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship struggles, and daily stressors that build up until they feel unmanageable. My approach is down-to-earth and flexible, and I use mindfulness and movement in sessions when sitting and talking isn't enough.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The phrase that guides my work is "it takes time." Not everything can be resolved in the moment it surfaces. If you're nervous about starting, it's completely normal to want to talk to someone who doesn't have a stake in your daily life. Having someone who can hear you without it affecting your relationship can make all the difference.
