Ashton Baker, LMSW

Psychotherapist
MD
Ashton’s goal is to create a safe space, free of judgment and expectations, which welcomes curiosity and encourages openness, exploration, and growth. Clients who work with Ashton can benefit from some of the modalities she uses, including Strengths Perspective, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Ashton believes these approaches help clients focus on building knowledge of their own strengths and identify how they can use these skills to solve their problems. They also aid clients as they work through their personal motivation for their goals, enabling them to create plans that will work. Additionally, these modalities help clients better understand how their thoughts shape their environment and how their reactions to the environment can, in turn, shape their thoughts. She holds a Master’s in Social Work from Indiana University and a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science from Indiana University Bloomington, where she studied Human Development and Families and minored in Psychology. Ashton previously worked as a Registered Behavioral Technician with children with Autism in clinic, home, and school settings. She has spent the greater part of her career in child welfare, working as a caseworker with entire family units to address individual and family-level challenges that prevented a safe environment for all. She is certified in Solution Based Casework, an evidence-informed practice model that focuses on pragmatic solutions to demanding situations in the child welfare arena. Ashton has worked with children, adults, families, and couples to identify difficult situations and create plans for growing skills and coping with challenges in safer ways. Ashton is a Midwestern gal. The famous quote, “The mountains are calling, and I am home,” certainly rings true for her. She feels most at peace while in nature—hiking, camping, or exploring of any kind.
