What should a new client know about working with you?

One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. Engaging in therapy, EMDR treatment, and alcohol and drug treatment can be intense - I take a direct yet warm approach to the therapeutic process and incorporate humor when appropriate. I see therapy as a collaborative journey where we work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Together, we'll uncover the strengths within you and develop strategies to navigate life's challenges, both past and present. I draw from diverse therapeutic modalities, tailoring my approach to your needs and goals

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences. The beginning sessions will involve discussing what the client wants to work on and improving a client’s ability to manage distress. When ready for the next phases of EMDR therapy, the client will be asked to focus on a specific event. While the client focuses on the event, the therapist will begin sets of side-to-side eye movements, sounds, or taps. The client will be guided to notice what comes to mind after each set. They may experience shifts in insight or changes in images, feelings, or beliefs regarding the event. These sets of eye movements, sounds, or taps are repeated until the event becomes less disturbing. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue and it does not require completing homework in between sessions. EMDR therapy focuses on changing the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that have resulted from the distressing event, and allows for the brain to resume natural healing. Throughout your therapy journey, you'll find wisdom, support, and guidance to help you navigate the depths of trauma. It is possible to shed light on the darkness, to reinstill hope, and to discover that, even in the face of trauma, there's a way to heal, to grow, and to thrive once more. Only you can decide to explore the intricate terrain of your trauma and find pathways to resilience, recovery, and renewed strength.
