Getting to know Barbie Nevin

Welcome to my practice! Clients I work with typically come to therapy for help with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and attachment issues related to trauma they've experienced. Life has become a challenge and they're looking for support to help them sort through the chaos, regain a sense of control, and begin moving forward. I incorporate elements of several treatment types in my work with clients. These include attachment-based, acceptance and commitment, person-centered, strengths-based and narrative therapies, as well as CBT. I hold a Masters degree in Professional Counseling and I have training in grief and loss, sexual assault, and trauma-informed practices. My goal is to help individuals separate the issues they’re struggling with from the authentic person they are, because things can get jumbled up over time. I aim to create space for people to safely sort through what’s happened to them and come to some type of peace with it, because that’s when the healing can begin. To do this, I base my approach on what I believe to be the most effective method or methods to help each individual client. No two people will respond the same to each type of therapy and I strive to recognize and honor what works for each person. I’ve been through life challenges of my own, including trauma, grief, anxiety and major life transitions. I’m also an empath, which means I don’t just feel for other people, I feel with them. This allows me to authentically connect with my clients and build trusting relationships.
