“Ben is not one of those therapists who just nods and asks, ‘How does that make you feel?’ He actually challenges you, in a good way. He's really structured, always knows the goal, and I felt like we were progressing.”

“ Ben cuts through the noise. He's direct without being pushy, and he actually helps you do something with your thoughts rather than just 'exploring' them forever. Getting to know Benjamin Goldman

Please note: You may not be seen by Benjamin Goldman, LMHC but by a member on his healthcare team. --------------------- When we are distressed, stunned, or emotionally withdrawn, we reach for whatever tools are available. Some of these tools are adaptive; some are unhelpful. We have many tools available to us, especially in how we talk to ourselves when we're experiencing big emotions. But sometimes, we need new tools, or our existing tools need an upgrade. Sometimes, we develop tools to cope with family wounds or handle traumatic experiences. I believe the therapist-client relationship relies on mutual trust, which is earned, not given. Having clear and measurable goals provides a strong foundation and accountability for our time together. With mutual trust and clear goals, I will help you build bridges between the unrealistic ideal self and the authentic self. Together, we will explore and challenge automatic routines and responses, develop discomfort tolerance, and practice self-compassion. I offer radical acceptance, self-efficacy, compassion, empathy, trust, pushback, and validation. I love challenging the traditional image of a therapist: therapy shouldn’t be stiff and impersonal. In sessions, I bring my personality into the room, embracing a "seriously unserious" style that thrives on genuine curiosity and enthusiastic engagement. When I’m not at work, you’ll find me at Equinox, planning a ski trip, on the NYT Cooking app, or walking my Bernedoodle on the Lower East Side. My specialties include working with relationships and intimacy, masculinity, family dysfunction, workplace success and discipline, sex and erotic desire, substance use, and self-compassion. I received a B.A. in Sociology from Hamilton College and completed my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Hunter College. While I take a multifaceted theoretical approach, I’ve done focused studies in REBT and EMDR.

Ben is not one of those therapists who just nods and asks, ‘How does that make you feel?’ He actually challenges you, in a good way. He's really structured, always knows the goal, and I felt like we were progressing.
Ben cuts through the noise. He's direct without being pushy, and he actually helps you do something with your thoughts rather than just 'exploring' them forever. His approach made a lot of sense to me, and I finally feel like I'm not just reacting to life but actually in control of how I respond to it.
I spent years believing that pushing through stress was a badge of honor. Benjamin helped me realize that I was running myself into the ground. He didn’t just give me a bunch of self-care platitudes: he helped me change how I think about stress, success, and what I owe myself. If you're feeling like your life is running you instead of the other way around, go see him,
I used to think ‘trauma’ was something that happened to other people. But there were things in my past that I just never dealt with, and they were still running the show. EMDR with Benjamin helped in ways I can't really explain. It's really powerful and I'm so grateful for the work we did.
Came in for the end of a relationship. Ben helped me rebuild, plain and simple. He didn’t sugarcoat things, but he also didn't let me get stuck in the 'woe is me' cycle ("self-victimizing" as he says). Working with him gave me a clearer head, better boundaries, and an actual sense of direction again.
I thought I had to keep everything together all the time. Ben helped me see where that pressure was coming from and how much it was actually hurting me. The way he explains things is clear and logical, but also personal.
I overthink everything. Work decisions, relationships, emails, texts, I analyze them to death. Ben helped me get a handle on it. The way he explains things just makes sense, and his approach is practical, which I appreciate.
I had the privilege of working with Benjamin Goldman, LMHC, for a year and a half, and he's been a true lifesaver during a tough time in my life. What really stood out about Benjamin's therapy is how he dug deep into the root causes of my panic and relationship issues, rather than just dealing with surface-level symptoms. His insights into relationships helped me make big improvements in my personal connections, leading to healthier and more satisfying relationships. Benjamin played a crucial role in helping me regain control over my life, conquer my panic symptoms, and build better relationships. I'm incredibly thankful for his guidance, expertise, and unwavering support.
I have been struggling with some difficult issues, and Ben has been there for me every step of the way. He is an excellent listener and always make sure to give me the time and space I need to fully express myself. His empathy and understanding has been a huge help, and I feel so much better for having worked with him.
Benjamin has been a tremendous help for me - as someone who was very nervous and hesitant about therapy, he helped me feel comfortable right away. The biggest thing is you can tell Benjamin really cares. He listens and offers the right mix of helpful insight as well as challenging your existing patterns of thinking to explore different options and perspectives while working through your problems. His approach feels very personal, addressing your problems directly and working together to reach achievable goals. I appreciate he can mix both easy to understand language along with explaining the therapeutic tools he is utilizing as well. I would highly recommend Benjamin!
I have been seeing Ben for a few months now, and I am amazed at the progress I have made. Ben has a real talent for helping people to overcome their struggles, and I feel so much better for having worked with them. He uses REBT as his approach, something I knew nothing about, but now am really passionate about as a way of learning new ways of talking to myself. His kindness, compassion, and professionalism have been a huge help, and I am so grateful for their support.
Ben is the absolute best! He's kind and funny yet serious and intelligent. I've learned so much in just a year. Would recommend to anyone!
I was a little nervous about starting therapy, but Benjamin has made the process so much easier. He is an excellent listener and always make sure to give me the time and space I need to fully express myself. I’ve really been struggling with things with my relationships with others and opening up and I think that my relationship with Ben is really helping me be less afraid of opening myself up to others.
I have been struggling with some issues around school, getting ready for new financial commitments, and just a lot of change in my day to day life. Ben has been there for me every step of the way. He knows how to be serious when things need to be taken seriously, but also knows how to make me laugh at my own problems some times in order to not be so weighed down by life. Ben is really an excellent listener and always make sure to give me the time and space I need to fully express myself. His empathy and understanding have been a huge help, and I feel so much better for having worked with him.
I have been seeing Ben for the past 18 months, and it has been an incredibly helpful and positive experience. Ben is extremely kind, compassionate, and understanding, and has always made me feel comfortable and at ease during our sessions. He is very knowledgeable and able to provide me with valuable insights and strategies to help me navigate through some challenging times. I feel like I have made significant progress in my personal growth and well-being thanks to the guidance and support from Ben. I highly recommend Ben to anyone seeking a new therapist.
Ben has been an invaluable source of support and guidance for me for the past year of therapy! He has helped me to work through some really tough issues and to make significant progress in my personal growth. I appreciate Ben’s patience and understanding, and I feel so much more confident and self-assured thanks to their help. Highly recommend!
Benjamin is a truly special therapist. I’ve been working with him for over 6 months and have surprised myself on how much progress I made. I came in for your typical work anxiety but Ben helped me reframe my goals in a way that showed how some of my maladaptive behaviors were impacting not only work, but my relationship, friendships, and overall happiness. He knows when to allow me to just talk about my week vs. guide me to the type of therapeutic work I don’t like to do, but know is ultimately good for me. I have already referred 3 friends to him and will continue to do so.
