“I've been to a few therapists and it's usually just the therapist operating on their own, which can get pretty challenging when you have insurance paperwork to deal with etc. What separated my experience at Expansive Therapy was actually having admin people that take care of all of that for you, and who are actually nice people. Highly recommend both Brett and Expansive! ”

Getting to know Brett Moran

At the core of my practice is the philosophy that our mental, emotional, and even physical health is largely influenced by our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This cognitive-behavioral approach allows us to identify any core wounds—the deep and often painful beliefs from your childhood—that continuously shape your relationships and sense of self. We can also explore how these wounds ache from the discrimination, minority stress, and stigma—whether that be internal or external—that compel you to conceal your identity. Above all, I strive to build a relationship around trust, esteem, and safety; one that strengthens your capacity to feel comfortable in your body, give and receive unconditional love, and live a life with meaning. I provide services through Expansive Therapy in New York, NY.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that growth is inseparable from being honest with ourselves and others. The most powerful, yet simple tool I have learnt about counseling is to embrace the here-and-now moment. What emerges in the room can become our focus for the session. While taking that vulnerable risk can be uncomfortable, expect to be met with a warm, inviting therapist. When appropriate, I always sprinkle a dab of humor to lighten the energy!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

If using insurance, Expansive Therapy only works with PPO and POS plans with out of network benefits, and we offer copays as low as $25/session depending on your plan. Our office manager will check your benefits as soon as you book and get back to you with a quote. Our admin team does all the leg work for you - submit claims for you, advocate for higher reimbursement on your behalf, and deal with claim issues.
