Dr. Bridgette Matías Villanueva, PsyD. is a postdoctoral fellow psychologist dedicated to offering compassionate, culturally attuned, and trauma-informed mental health care. She recently completed her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU), where her dissertation, “Openness Toward Seeking Mental Health Services in a Sample of Christians in Puerto Rico” reflected her commitment to understanding how cultural and religious contexts shape help-seeking behaviors. Dr. Matías Villanueva completed her internship in Sunset Terrace Family Health Center at NYU Langone Health, Brooklyn. Her academic preparation includes a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras, a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from PHSU, and a postgraduate certificate in Neuroscience of Learning. She has also pursued theological studies, which enrich her interest in the intersection of faith, psychological well-being, and trauma. Throughout her clinical practicum experiences, Dr. Matías Villanueva has worked with individuals across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, in diverse settings such as community mental health clinics, schools, and underserved communities. She has supported clients experiencing grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, complex life stressors, autism spectrum disorder and severe psychopathology. These experiences have strengthened her capacity to offer flexible, evidence-based, and contextually sensitive care.
