Getting to know Brittney George

My practice uses a social justice lens, providing equitable spaces where people can be safely authentic. I hold a Master's in Professional Counseling and a Master's in Human Services, Addiction and Recovery, both from Liberty University. I use a variety of modalities, including psychodynamic, somatic therapy, trauma-sensitive mindfulness practices, shadow work, and inner-child work. I seek to guide clients toward their best medicine.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am not a “tough love” therapist at my core; I am relational, warm, and nurturing. Some read this and think it is “enabling” and “soft,” but this approach has been necessary and impactful for those with no other space to experience compassion. In my work with specific identities (e.g., Black women/femmes), I recognize that we are accustomed to having “meanness in our medicine.” I seek to challenge that by experimenting with kindness, encouragement, and safety.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once "fit" has been established, we look to develop rapport and a collaborative feel. It's essential to lay a foundation of trust and safety, allowing clients to feel space to be themselves. I am patient with this part, mainly because it's foundational and sets the tone for when it's time to tackle more challenging topics.
