Psychologist
CA
My name is Brock Pistel, Ph.D., and I really enjoy what I do. I am a licensed psychologist in the state of California, working with clients via telehealth. I provide individual therapy to adults experiencing difficulties with anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and trauma. I primarily use a cognitive behavioral therapy approach but often adapt my methods to best suit my clients. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, which has equipped me with a strong foundation to support my integrated approach to psychotherapy. Rather than adhering solely to one specific theory, I use a combination of interventions I believe the field has to offer. I consider biological, psychological, and social factors relevant to understanding a person. Specifically, I draw from CBT, DBT, solution-focused therapy, Trauma Model Therapy, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I work with adults 18 years and older. I am most familiar with treating issues related to anxiety, depression, anger management, stress management, relationship problems, substance misuse, trauma, and mood disorders. However, I am open to working with individuals facing other challenges, assuming the client and therapist are a good match. My communication style is flexible-I can be direct or subtle, assertive or gentle. I can lead a conversation when necessary but also follow. I believe that anything a good therapist says must come from a compassionate place and that listening first is paramount to quality communication. My journey to mental healthcare began when I was 14 years old, inspired by watching my father thoughtfully comfort a patient prior to surgery. This early experience drew me toward the helping profession and continues to motivate my work today.
