Getting to know Dr. Cameron Stumpf

I'm so glad you're here! I am clinical psychology fellow completing my postdoctoral training at Bryant West Psychology. I work with adults from diverse backgrounds and identities. My practice is centered on guiding clients through their journeys of self-discovery and relational growth, and helping them process challenging life experiences. I specialize in a range of areas, including young adult life transitions, grief and loss, spiritual concerns, perfectionism, men’s issues, and relational conflict, along with depression, anxiety, and surviving complex trauma. My goal is to foster a supportive and secure environment where you can openly explore your deepest concerns and work towards meaningful change. Starting therapy can often feel overwhelming, and my primary goal is to create a safe and confidential space where even the most painful and uncomfortable topics can be addressed. I encourage you to communicate as openly and freely as possible, especially about the specific concerns that led you to seek therapy. While this may seem straightforward, it is often a profoundly challenging and complex process. Nevertheless, this open dialogue is crucial for me to truly understand your experiences and provide you with the most effective support. During our sessions, I listen with deep attention and curiosity, reflecting on what I hear and gently inviting your awareness to insights you may not have recognized yet. This collaborative approach ensures that our work together is both insightful and deeply personal. *** In-network with Aetna and affiliates, plus New School, Columbia, Fordham, and NYU insurances (just copays/deductibles). I bill out-of-network and collaborate on affordable fees if needed***

What should a new client know about working with you?

I earned my doctoral degree from George Fox University, a nationally recognized school nestled in the Pacific Northwest. My clinical internship was completed at Biola University’s Counseling Center in Los Angeles, an experience that profoundly shaped my therapeutic approach. During my time there, I gained extensive experience working with students of all ages navigating the complex pressures of academia, while striving for personal, relational, sexual, and vocational growth, fulfillment, and success - often in the face of significant challenges. These challenges frequently included navigating adversity, limited resources, and at times, debilitating symptoms such that I learned to appreciate the strength and resilience of the human spirit. The work was incredibly rewarding and deeply meaningful. I truly loved my time at Biola and am immensely grateful for the comprehensive training and invaluable insights I gained, which continue to inform my practice today. I encourage you to reach out and begin your therapeutic journey today.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Whether your goal is to gain greater self-understanding or to create actionable change in your life, the core of our work will involve exploring your internal world within a warm and supportive relational space. I also place a strong emphasis on recognizing and working through repetitive patterns in how you engage with yourself, others, and the world. By challenging these ingrained patterns, we can help you achieve a more complete understanding of yourself and enhance your ability to engage more effectively in your relationships. As we work together, my commitment remains steadfast to your initial goals, the ongoing exploratory process, the dynamic that unfolds between us relationally, and the broader therapeutic aims of increasing your self-awareness, psychological flexibility, and capacity to engage in life with greater hope and joy. My primary therapeutic orientation is evidence-based psychodynamic, which emphasizes the exploration of unconscious patterns and past experiences to understand present difficulties. However, I believe in tailoring therapy to your unique needs, integrating tools from various evidence-based modalities. These include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation and distress tolerance, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for psychological flexibility and values-driven action, and Narrative Practice for reframing personal stories and fostering new perspectives, as well as envisioning pathways for growth and fulfillment that are unique to you.

Ongoing session: $160-350 for 50 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductibles and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurances (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, Health Scope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark ) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, and Fordham. Your in-network insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our service more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.

I would highly recommend Dr. Stumpf's services to others, including my family and friends.
My visit was excellent! I felt that Cameron listened well and gave me the space and prompting I needed to accurately express myself. I am relatively new to therapy, and this has been my best experience with a provider by far. I often feel nervous going into appointments, but Cameron made me feel immediately at ease.
Cameron is personable, kind, and direct. It felt like we got to what I needed quickly but it was not rushed or forced. I felt appropriately challenged and validated, and Cameron seemed patient in letting me work through my stuff. I’m happy I saw him, and would highly recommend!
