What should a new client know about working with you?

Choosing a therapist is a deeply personal decision, and it’s important that you feel informed and comfortable as you consider taking this step. I want to take a moment to share a bit about my style as a therapist, what you can expect from working with me, and how we’ll approach the journey together. At the heart of my work is a commitment to empowering you with both tools and understanding. I practice from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) perspective, which means we will explore how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected—and how you can reshape these patterns to create meaningful, lasting change. Alongside this, I incorporate psychoeducation into every session, offering insights and knowledge that help you better understand yourself, your mind, and the evidence-based strategies we’re using together. My sessions are collaborative and structured. While there’s always space for emotional expression and reflection, we will also focus on goals, progress, and real-life application. CBT is an active, problem-focused form of therapy, and I aim to create a space where you feel both supported and challenged to grow. Together, we’ll clarify your current concerns, identify unhelpful patterns, and begin building practical strategies to support your well-being. I want you to walk away from each session not just feeling heard, but with something concrete: a new perspective, a skill to practice, a deeper understanding of what’s happening in your mind and body.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Here’s what you can expect from a typical therapy process with me: 1. Assessment & Goal Setting In our first few sessions, we’ll focus on understanding your concerns in depth. I’ll ask questions about your symptoms, history, thought patterns, coping strategies, and what you hope to get out of therapy. We’ll then identify specific, realistic goals to work toward. 2. Psychoeducation & Skill Building Throughout therapy, I will introduce therapeutic techniques and principles in a clear and accessible way. You’ll learn how your thoughts and behaviors interact, and we’ll begin to apply interventions that target these areas. I’ll explain each strategy we use, the research behind it, and how to make it work for your unique situation. 3. Practice & Application We’ll apply these strategies in session, but the real transformation happens when you begin practicing them in your daily life. This might include completing thought records, trying new behaviors, journaling, or engaging in structured experiments between sessions. I will always check in on how these experiences go and adjust as needed. 4. Reflection & Adjustment I regularly invite feedback on what’s working and what isn’t. Together, we’ll refine our approach based on your experience and evolving needs. Therapy is a dynamic process, and you are always an active partner in shaping our work. 5. Progress Monitoring & Maintenance As you gain tools and confidence, we’ll track your progress and begin planning for long-term success. We may shift toward a maintenance phase, focusing on relapse prevention and how to sustain change after therapy ends.
