Getting to know Charity Diaz

I am a licensed psychotherapist and received my Master of Social Work from New York University. I received post-graduate training at The Ackerman Institute for the Family, The EMDR International Association, and psychoanalytic institutes. I have practiced in a variety of settings such as city agencies, a community center, elementary schools, group practice, and an outpatient clinic.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I treat individuals, couples, and families navigating emotional difficulties, helping to bring about insight, and supporting life transitions. I provide compassionate care in a safe therapeutic environment. I also challenge my patients to better understand themselves through interpretations and work to support them in exploring the necessary changes to better their lives and relationships. My approach to therapy is collaborative, direct, and psychodynamic. I structure my practice from the evaluation process of getting to know you and tailoring treatment to your specific needs. I am trained in a variety of clinical modalities, drawing from the lens of Attachment Theory, EMDR, Family Systems, Psychoanalysis, Trauma Care and Recovery. I treat a range of conditions from anxiety, depression, and interpersonal difficulties by helping to process intrapsychic conflicts, strengthening self-esteem and confidence, and managing symptoms.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In your first intake session, we will get to know each other, explore your goals for therapy, and start planning a treatment that fits your needs. I will collect your life story by exploring your past and present which will provide insight into the constitution of your function. My primary goal is to help you better understand yourself, and understand you through deep listening and compassion.
