Getting to know Chris Ward

Ward discovered counseling as a late-in-life career transition, which has proven to be incredibly meaningful and exciting. Moving from a career in land surveying to working with individuals on an intimate emotional level has been a powerful experience. This enthusiasm for counseling led Ward to pursue a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision, where he was exposed to a diverse range of learning experiences, including supervision, teaching, curriculum development, individual counseling, group counseling, couples and family counseling, play therapy, and counseling research. Through his work experience, Ward has had the opportunity to work with clients of various ages and backgrounds, including underprivileged populations. In crisis counseling and criminal justice transitional treatment, Ward has had the privilege of working with clients struggling with substance use and a history of incarceration. Ward’s mindfulness-informed, person-centered therapeutic approach values the client as a unique individual who is the expert of their own life and experiences. The client is encouraged to guide the session and inform the counselor of their desires and needs in counseling. The ultimate goal of therapy is to empower the client to make personal changes and grow in the direction of their choosing.
