Getting to know Dr. Christian De Leon-Casillas

I am a bilingual psychotherapist who provides therapy in English and Spanish. I specialize in anxiety (Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, Panic Attacks, and more), depression, grief, trauma, identity and relationships, emotion regulation, and personal/professional growth for adults (25-64 yrs) and young adults (18-24 yrs) in NY. I provide a safe space and active listening for open dialogues about what brought you to psychotherapy. I also help with persistent emptiness, confusion, or purposelessness in work/life. With experience serving Hispanic/Latinx populations, I address immigration, bilingualism, acculturation, and biculturalism. As a clinical psychology postdoctoral fellow at Bryant West, I offer individual psychotherapy in English/Spanish via in-person or virtual sessions to adults (25-64 yrs) and young adults (18-24 yrs) in NY of all ethnicities, cultures, and communities, including LGBTQIA+. Insurances & Fees: * In-network with Aetna and affiliates, plus New School, Columbia, Fordham, and NYU insurances (just copays/deductibles). I bill out-of-network and collaborate on affordable fees if needed— please, reach out with questions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I help those who've tried various strategies for these challenges—without lasting relief—such as managing anxiety symptoms, depressive episodes, grief, trauma recovery, navigating identity questions, improving relationships, building emotion regulation, or fostering personal/professional growth. At my core, you already possess the strengths to navigate these; our work uncovers them through exploration and self-understanding. Your struggles are unique and I apprach you nonjudgmentally with curiosity, warmth, respect, and compassion, while treasuring and honoring what you share with me. I fundamentally maintain that unprocessed emotions and patterns outside of your awareness often hide your strengths. Gently, we unpack them to process feelings and relearn healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. I hold that our therapeutic relationship and a safe space are the vehicles for lasting change. My Clinical Approach: * Evidence-based Relational Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, drawing from neuropsychoanalysis and transference-focused psychotherapy. Refined over 6+ years via research, conferences, and high-quality supervision. This approach is highly effective to unlearn and relearn, through experience, patterns of relating with yourself and others. My Credentials: * Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Ponce Health Sciences University, Puerto Rico. Pre-doctoral internship. * Predoctoral internship at Stony Brook University Counseling and Psychological Services Center. * Theoretical certification (63 didactic hours) in Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, TFP Latinoamérica (early 2025).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My goal: Relieve immediate symptoms while fostering profound, lasting change for a fuller life. I prioritize our relationship: Trust through consistent, empathetic dialogue helps you feel heard. I aim to listen and respond with unwavering attention and tacful intention. If I miss the mark, I'm open to discuss it with you so that we can reach a higher shared understanding. In sessions (in-person or virtual), we collaboratively identify old patterns that once protected you but now hinder growth. Understanding them lets you release and build new ones aligned with your needs/goals—with my support, compassion, encouragement, and gentle challenges. We focus on present struggles while linking to past influences. Schedule today to learn more about yourself and start your process of breaking patterns, tap your hidden strengths, and live fuller. I look forward to working with you! * I provide services in NY, English and Spanish, in-person or virtually, to adults (25-64) and young adults (18-24) of all ethnicities and cultures.

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductibles and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurances (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, Health Scope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark ) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, and Fordham. Your in-network insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our service more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.

I went to see Christian the other day and he listened very attentively. I really felt heard.
Great therapist. Thanks, Dr. Christian De Leon, really appreciate all your help.
Christian was an outstanding resource to me in a time of need. He was professional and we developed trust and rapport very quickly. This was my first interaction with a therapist and I'm grateful I found him and I strongly recommend him to others seeking help.
Best therapist I have ever had!
When I saw Dr. Christian, I was initially nervous but his gentle and non judgemental stance made me feel comfortable enough to share things that I usually keep private.
Good therapist. Recommended.
Christian is a very knowledgeable, warm, and calm therapist. He tends to listen more than he talks and truly creates a safe space by being present, reliable and thoughtful (he really seem to think things through). I really felt safe to discuss whatever was bothering me at the time. His ability to hear my complicated story and summarize it in a way that was clear really helped me understand a lot of things about myself. He’s professional but also very real (not mechanical). I really encourage people to see him if they want to understand themselves more and change aspects of their lives.
I came to Christian because I was feeling constantly fatigued and tired and not knowing why. With him, I learned that I was being tired all the time because I was putting all my effort avoiding my feelings and constantly doing things. We noticed how I tended to do the same thing in the session, and tracked the whole thing to my past. I was feeling fatigued because I tried to avoid my feelings by doing stuff. Now, I do less without feeling guilty and feel more relaxed (although sometimes fatigued, but normal I guess). I feel like ironically, I gained more control over my life by having less control of my emotions. Definitely solid work.
Working with this therapist has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my personal growth journey. I came into therapy wanting to understand how I relate to others and what patterns from my own personality were shaping those dynamics. For years, many of these patterns went unnoticed or misunderstood, but through our work together I’ve finally begun to see them clearly and with compassion rather than judgment. He is knowledgeable, deeply attuned, and genuinely warm. His insightfulness and presence have helped me make sense of things I’ve struggled with for a long time, and more importantly, to live in a way that feels closer to my values. For the first time, I feel grounded in myself and more authentically connected to the people around me. I’m deeply grateful for his guidance and the space he has created for me to grow and heal. I would recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone seeking a therapist who combines emotional depth, clinical skill, and genuine care. 100% recommended.
I came in totally wiped out from being a doormat all the time, and I felt this crushing guilt every single time I tried to set a boundary. Christian helped me figure out how my past is deeply linked to the way I act now. He helped me put the pieces together. Now, I can see those old patterns starting up right when they happen. I don't just react anymore. It's like I have a real choice in how I respond instead of just getting dragged along by those old feelings. It's been life-changing for my relationships, honestly. I highly recommend him!
