What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and my goal is to make the process feel supportive, collaborative, and clear from the very beginning. In our first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming space where we focus on getting to know you — not just your challenges, but your strengths, interests, and goals. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’ve tried before (if anything), and what you hope will feel different or better in your life. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, but there’s no pressure to share everything at once. We move at your pace. My therapy style is collaborative, affirming, and practical. I integrate evidence-based approaches while tailoring sessions to your unique needs. With children, I often use play-based and creative interventions to build safety and engagement. With teens and adults, I balance insight-building with concrete tools you can use in everyday life. I support clients in strengthening emotional regulation, communication, self-advocacy, and coping skills while also exploring patterns that may be keeping them stuck. I practice from a neurodiversity-affirming lens and welcome diverse communication styles, including AAC. My approach is respectful, strengths-based, and individualized — not one-size-fits-all. Above all, therapy with me is a partnership. We’ll regularly check in about what’s working, adjust as needed, and work toward meaningful, sustainable change together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work with clients follows a thoughtful, collaborative process that balances understanding, skill-building, and meaningful change. We begin with an initial phase focused on assessment and goal setting. During the first 1–2 sessions, I gather background information, explore current challenges, and identify strengths, supports, and patterns. Together, we clarify what you’d like to work on and define goals that feel realistic and personally meaningful. This foundation helps ensure therapy is purposeful and aligned with your needs. Once goals are established, sessions typically follow a flexible but structured rhythm. We start with a brief check-in to see how things have been since our last meeting. From there, we may explore a current stressor, process an experience, practice a coping or regulation skill, or work on communication and problem-solving strategies. I integrate insight-oriented conversations with practical tools you can apply between sessions. For children, sessions may include play-based, creative, or movement-oriented activities to build emotional awareness and regulation in developmentally appropriate ways. For teens and adults, sessions often blend reflection, skills practice, and discussion of patterns or themes that emerge over time. Throughout our work, I regularly check in about progress and adjust our focus as needed. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all — it evolves with you. My goal is to create a supportive, affirming space where you feel heard, challenged in productive ways, and equipped with strategies that lead to lasting growth.
