Dr. Christina Kiernan, PhD

Psychotherapist
1430 Broadway, Ste 1510, New York, NY
I am a licensed clinician with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University. I completed my internship at Madison Park Psychological Services. I am well-trained, thoughtful, and deeply compassionate. I provide individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, panic, social anxiety, identity issues, and the sequelae of trauma. I also work with people facing difficult life transitions, family, work, and relationship conflict, grief and loss, imposter syndrome, life stress, and burnout. I primarily communicate in English, but I am also proficient in Spanish and Mandarin (Chinese) if you would like to express yourself in those languages. As a mother of two, I resonate with the joys and struggles of the journey to becoming a parent, and I am keenly interested in working with those dealing with the challenges of fertility, pregnancy, miscarriage, parenting, and other pre- and post-natal mental health issues. I have also worked with individuals struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder, including those who experience overthinking, tortuous decision-making, and perfectionism.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is flexible and tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Central to all of my work is the recognition that our relationship, one that is based on acceptance, trust, safety, and transparency, is key to the process of healing and growth. Thus, I strive to provide an empathic and non-judgmental space in which I will listen deeply to your concerns, engage you with curiosity and respect, and explore what may be coming up between us that can get in the way of our collaboration. I strongly believe in meeting you where you are and will respect your needs, preferences, and pace.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use an integrative therapeutic approach, including evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Exposure/Response Prevention, Meditation, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic Therapy. In sessions, we may explore your life experiences to gain insight. We may uncover and face together challenging realities to be confronted so that I may help you move past them.

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
Ongoing session: $160-350 for 50 minutes
  • Sliding scale: Offers lower out-of-pocket fees on an individual basis, typically based on your ability to pay
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

Bryant West Psychology works with most insurance plans (whether in-network or out-of-network) to make the financials easy, hassle-free, and paper-work-free for you. We can bill your insurance for you, and you can pay us any deductible and co-pays by credit card or through Zelle, as well as the old-fashioned ways, such as check or cash. In-Network: Our clinicians are providers in the following networks: Aetna and its affiliated insurances (Allied Benefit Systems - Aetna, Christian Brothers Services - Aetna, Health Scope - Aetna, Meritain, Nippon, Trustmark ) and student health insurance at NYU, Columbia, New School, Fordham, FIT, and Pratt. In-network, your insurance company sets our fees, co-pays, and deductibles, making our service more affordable. We will discuss this with you. Out-of-Network: We bill all insurance companies, such as United Health Care, Oxford, Cigna, Blue Cross/Shield, and Beacon (to name a few). Depending on your plan, your insurance may pay up to 80% of our fee (and sometimes more). We will do our best to work with you to make payment arrangements that won't break the bank—that is, your bank.
