Getting to know Christine Paul

Hello, I'm Christine. My approach to therapy is simple: be open-minded, accepting, and non-judgmental. Life can be challenging at times, and even when we are working hard to push through, it can still get the best of us. Seeking support is brave, and the outcome can be incredibly rewarding. Having compassion for yourself and seeing tangible results are key pieces to completing the journey. I work from a strength-based perspective using various goal-focused therapeutic modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I began my career working in a medical hospital, caring for patients of all ages with various needs. During this time, I gained an appreciation for the strenuous work of medical professionals and their arduous responsibilities. After 10 years at the hospital, I transitioned to a psychiatric hospital, discovered the field of Social Work, and changed the course of my future by becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). This leap of faith led to a bachelor’s degree in 2015 and furthering my education with a master’s degree in 2018, both from the University of Maine School of Social Work. As a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, I have experience working with those living with substance use disorders, working in a medication-assisted treatment program, and supporting those affected by someone else’s substance misuse. My current practice involves treating a diverse population regaining resiliency while having been impacted by historical trauma, domestic violence, family violence, sexual assault, and other life-altering events. Using EMDR as a standard technique in this process has allowed for hope and healing to take place among individuals and their families.
