Getting to know Christopher Haley

I'm a compassionate, empathic, and nonjudgmental listener who aims to create a safe, warm, and supportive environment that fosters healing, growth, and empowerment. My goal as a therapist is to help you achieve greater happiness and satisfaction by better understanding yourself and your relationships with others. I specialize in working with men of all ages from diverse personal and professional backgrounds—including professionals, artists, entertainers, and students—struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, substance use, addiction, disordered eating, and sexuality. I also work with women on these and other issues, such as life transitions, career, and health challenges. I am LGBTQ affirming and particularly understand the struggles of gay and bisexual men. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. I provide therapy in person on Tuesdays near Grand Central and Thursdays near Union Square, and virtually on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am licensed to see individuals residing in New York. I would be honored to accompany you on your therapy journey. Let’s work together to achieve your goals and create a more fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Together, we'll embark on a journey to explore the unique threads that make up your experience, shaping who you are. We'll work together to identify recurring patterns and explore how you relate to others. By linking your past to the present, you'll gain clarity that leads to long-term growth and greater self-acceptance. It's important to remember that therapy isn't about quick fixes; it's a gradual exploration that requires patience and dedication. I work with men and women of all ages struggling with a range of issues and concerns. I specialize in working with men from diverse backgrounds, including working professionals, artists, entertainers, and students. I also provide LGBTQ affirming therapy, and I particularly understand the struggles experienced by gay and bisexual men. To provide the best possible care, I continually engage in ongoing education to stay current with the latest research and techniques. I’m honored to be a member of the Backline referral network, an organization that connects music industry professionals with mental health and wellness resources. I am also a member of Manhattan Alternative, a national network of Kink, Poly, and LGBTQ affirming providers. Before becoming a therapist, I held senior management roles in the not-for-profit sector.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is an interactive and collaborative experience. I foster deep, meaningful connections. I'm a compassionate, empathic, and nonjudgmental listener who aims to create a safe, warm, and supportive environment that fosters healing, growth, and empowerment. My therapeutic orientation is integrative and not limited to just one method or approach. I tailor my therapy sessions to meet the unique needs of each individual, drawing from various theoretical models and techniques, including psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, relational, supportive, somatic, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT). I'll check in with you regularly to assess how therapy is working for you and adjust accordingly.
