Getting to know Clarissa Mcpherson

I have been working in the mental health field for several years now and have acquired extensive experience in combining existential and Jungian concepts with cognitive behavioral therapy. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University. I have an eclectic approach to therapy and believe in tailoring my methodologies to the individual.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have worked extensively in both the non profit and private fields providing both mental health counseling as well as spiritual life coaching. These two diverse types of experience provide a distinctly original therapeutic experience for my clients. “What meaning can you find in your life? What core beliefs do you have? What is your shadow self trying to tell you? What messages does your inner child want to share with you?” These are just some of the questions we can explore together in my therapeutic practice.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session I will complete an intake assessment to gather as much information to better assess and get to know you, your history, and what concerns have brought you to therapy and therefore set up goals. The following sessions, we will engage in talk therapy while pulling from various modalities to help you achieve your goals. Our sessions are 45 min in length on a weekly basis. Please allow 15 minutes before the session to do the intake paperwork. I PROVIDE PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES ONLY; PLEASE NOTE I DON’T PROVIDE MEDICATION MANAGEMENT SERVICES.

This was my first appointment with Clarissa, and I was nervous. I haven't seen a psychotherapist in a very long time. She made me feel at ease, we discussed what was going on, and came to mutual agreement for a starting point. She is a great listener. I will be seeing her again on a regular basis.
