Getting to know Cora Goldfarb

Please note that I am an out-of-network provider, and I am not in network with any insurance companies. Cora Goldfarb, LCAT, LP is both a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (with a specialty in Drama Therapy) as well as a Licensed Psychoanalyst. Her private practice specializes in helping people to improve their relationships, communication skills, self-esteem, and self-confidence. In addition, there is a focus on self-reflection, curiosity, and an interest in improving one's quality of life. I have over fifteen years of experience of working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples in various settings: mental health clinics, school based mental health programs, psychiatric units, and in private practice. I have a Masters in Drama Therapy from New York University and a Certificate in Psychoanalysis from The National Institute for the Psychotherapies. For my child patients, I utilize play therapy and drama therapy techniques, and I approach adult treatment from a relational psychoanalytic theoretical background.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy where the patient and I work together towards a goal. In my practice I work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. Patients are dealing with issues of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, as well as relationship issues, uncertainties in one's career, and identity issues. As a specialist in perinatal mood disorders, I help women struggling with fertility issues, as well as depression/anxiety in the prenatal and postnatal periods. I believe that therapy can assist people in improving their interpersonal communication skills. New York City can be a stressful and isolating place and my goal is for us to work together to help you create a fulfilling and peaceful life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My sessions with an individual patient are 45 minutes and can be either once or more times per week. Couples sessions are 1 hour and often focus on communication issues, intimacy issues, and parenting differences.

I started seeing Cora in 2018 on a weekly basis, both in person and virtually. Over the years we've worked on my intimacy disorder and other core issues such as addiction, codependency, and anxiety. Along the way we've navigated the ways these issues manifest and she's provided vital insight regarding my family of origin, my patterns, and my communication style. Cora both sympathizes and supports me while actively challenging my presumptions and perceptions, which is a difficult balance to strike. She's open to feedback and it's clear that she truly values me and my well-being. I have grown tremendously in her care.
