Dr. Corrine Ahrabi-Nejad, PhD

Psychotherapist
NY
I am a licensed psychologist and co-founder of The Bravery Collective Psychology, a child, adolescent, and young adult therapy practice in New York City. I work with children, teens, and young adults ages 0 to 26 who are navigating anxiety, OCD, depression, medical stress, and major life transitions. I have a special focus on supporting adolescents and young adults living with medical conditions. This can include adjusting to a new diagnosis, coping with chronic illness, managing treatment demands, or processing hospital experiences. When health becomes part of daily life, it can affect school, friendships, identity, and family dynamics. I help young people and their families make space for both the emotional and practical parts of that experience. My style is warm, collaborative, and down to earth. Therapy with me is active and supportive. We build real skills while also creating space to talk honestly about what feels hard. My goal is to help young people feel more confident, more capable, and less alone. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming. I offer a free 15 minute consultation so we can talk through your concerns and see if working together feels like a good fit.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You do not need to have the perfect words to begin. Many kids and teens walk in unsure of what to say. Many parents feel worried they may have missed something. That is completely normal. My job is to make the process feel clear, supportive, and manageable. Sessions are thoughtful but not stiff. We might talk, problem solve, practice new tools, laugh, or sit with something difficult. I focus on practical strategies that can be used in real life at school, at home, with friends, or during medical appointments, not just ideas that stay in the therapy room. For younger children, I work closely with parents so you feel equipped and supported. For teens and young adults, I balance independence with collaboration so they feel ownership of their progress while parents stay appropriately informed. If medical stress is part of the picture, I understand how closely emotional and physical health connect. We address both. Most importantly, therapy with me is a space where you or your child can show up as you are, without pressure to explain everything perfectly or to pretend things are fine.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start by getting to know each other. In the first few sessions, I ask thoughtful questions to understand what has been happening, what feels most urgent, and what you are hoping will change. Together, we set clear goals, whether that is reducing anxiety, managing OCD, adjusting to a diagnosis, improving mood, or navigating a life transition. From there, sessions are structured but flexible. We learn practical coping tools, break down overwhelming situations into manageable steps, build confidence through small and meaningful wins, and create plans for handling tough moments outside of session. When working with children, parents are actively involved so you leave with strategies that work at home. With teens and young adults, we focus on strengthening independence, decision making skills, and emotional resilience. We check in regularly about progress and adjust as needed. Therapy is collaborative and tailored to each person. If you are unsure where to begin, a brief consultation is a simple first step.
